Angry Democrats seek financial rescue of minority-owned broadcasters

TheHill.com - Democrats seek financial rescue of minority-owned broadcasters

High-ranking House Democrats are urging the Treasury Department to prop up minority-owned broadcasters suffering from a lack of capital and lost advertising revenue amid the economic slump.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) is leading an effort to convince Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to take “decisive action” by extending credit to this sector of the broadcasting industry.

I have to agree with you here. Being minority owned is not a reason to be kept afloat. Either earn your market share or go away.

It is time though that politicians become real statesmen and actually do what is right for the country as a whole. This pandering to one side or another accomplishes nothing but government waste and the continuation of worthless programs and practices.

Didn't the government just give a trillion dollars to white-owned business including AIG? Oh right, we weren't supposed to notice the skin color of those handouts.

I am not opposed to bailing out an institution that if allowed to fail would drag the rest of the economy further into the tank, regardless of who owns it. But to say a business must be saved only because of WHO owns it, is in of itself ridiculous.

Re: Democrats seek financial rescue of minority-owned broadcasters

I understand the desire to do this, but when we are bleeding money like we are now it is simply not the time. When we could afford it, it would not be needed, so I guess minority owned broadcasters are out going to have to be able to compete.

Who was it who said "capitalism without bankruptcy is like Christianity without hell"?
