Vice President Joe Biden did not leak classified information when he reportedly described to dinner guests the location of a "hideaway" his predecessor, Dick Cheney, used in the days following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, an aide to Biden said Monday.

"There was no disclosure of classified information," spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander said.

She said Biden was merely describing a guest room in the Naval Observatory, the official vice presidential residence in Washington.

But that's not what Newsweek's Eleanor Clift reported last week.

She wrote that Biden, while at the Gridiron Club dinner in Washington, described to fellow guests the "bunker-like room" that served as the "secure, undisclosed location" where Cheney holed up after the terror attacks.

"He said the young naval officer giving him a tour of the residence showed him the hideaway, which is behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock with a narrow connecting hallway lined with shelves filled with communications equipment," she wrote.

"The officer explained that when Cheney was in lock down, this was where his most trusted aides were stationed, an image that Biden conveyed in a way that suggested we shouldn't be surprised that the policies that emerged were off the wall."

Biden Reveals Location of Secret VP Bunker

By Jonathan Passantino
FOXNews.com

"Vice President Joe Biden, well-known for his verbal gaffes, may have finally outdone himself, divulging potentially classified information meant to save the life of a sitting vice president.

According to a report, while recently attending the Gridiron Club dinner in Washington, an annual event where powerful politicians and media elite get a chance to cozy up to one another, Biden told his dinnermates about the existence of a secret bunker under the old U.S. Naval Observatory, which is now the home of the vice president.

The bunker is believed to be the secure, undisclosed location former Vice President Dick Cheney remained under protection in secret after the 9/11 attacks.

Eleanor Clift, Newsweek magazine's Washington contributing editor, said Biden revealed the location while filling in for President Obama at the dinner, who, along with Grover Cleveland, is the only president to skip the gathering".

As much as I know there are some people who like Obama and think he's a really smart fellow I have to say here is proof positive that his judgement is questionable. Or is it that he picked the plagiarism king to make himself look smarter?

The really sad thing is Biden will be sent as our representative to funerals all over the world and even at that his qualifications are questionable. God forbid he has to take the reigns power. But then the picture really gets scary when you think next in line is the every frightening Speaker Nasty Piglousy liar. So it appears we're stuck with a trifecta of incompetence unequaled in our history.

And to think people actually voted for the this brain trust.

"You can always count on Americans to do the right thing—after they’ve tried everything else".

Geez you forgot this part.

Alexander on Monday described the room as a rather accessible place that is far from secret.

She said the room was not an underground facility, "rather, an upstairs workspace in the residence, which he understood was frequently used by Vice President Cheney and his aides.

"That workspace was converted into an upstairs guest room when the Bidens moved into the residence."

Why don't you prove Alexander a liar now. You had no problem beating the war drums and backing an unnamed source from the dinner party in order to howl your disapproval. Better yet substantiate this unnamed source first, then prove Alexander a liar. How do you even know what was said at the party? Did Elenor Clift ever identify her source and quote them?

One report is that Biden screwed up, his staff comes out and says "no no no, Biden didn't say that, what he really said was...."

So from now on, we should wait till his staff says what he means? Is that what I've been doing wrong all this time with liberal politicians? Listening to what they say instead of waiting for their staff to say what they REALLY meant?

Got it.

She I do believe, was quoting Joe Biden...

Yep, pretty clear she's not quoting a third party here... Just Joe.

Was she one of the head table dinner guests? Does she say she was there and heard it herself? None of the articles I've read specifically state she is a witness herself, just that he allegedly made these comments. And she isn't quoting anybody, she's paraphrasing. If she heard him with her own ears she would be quoting him.

Please, can you provide some proof of her eyewitness account, that she is quoting him directly. Because what you've presented thus far is not clear at all.

It's okay Lerxst, we understand. You refuse to accept Biden screwed up, and you'll take the words of his aides over the press... even a liberal mag like NEWSWEEK...

It's ok, we understand you hate Obama and would believe an unnamed source in ANYTHING against Obama.

Can you show that she is quoting a third party?

Nope.

So, you take his aides word as to what he meant.

And I don't hate Obama, I just think his the worst president we've ever had, his policies are going to cost us more then we can afford and his judgment is highly suspect.

So you take the word of an unnamed source.

And yes, you do hate Obama, this is quite clear to everyone, sorry you are in denial.

Why is it if I disagree with your favored politician, it must be hate? Are you really that.. emotionally vested in Obama?

Wow Mr. V, is this what your argument is reduced to?

So in other words, you can't find anyplace in which she identifies herself as an actual witness to the account, you can't find where she's quoting him directly, and you can't find anyplace in which she names a third party source for her info.

Eleanor Clift's word is golden on this one despite no corroboration whatsoever.

You know I challenged your ridiculous assertion in the other thread and you slinked away from it over there. And now I'm calling you out here because you are resting your case on an unverified story that has been refuted. And that's it, Eleanor Clift's unsourced, uncorroborated accusation vs. Biden's staff refutation.

You have no evidence of what Biden actually said, none whatsoever. Yet you are sitting in judgment as if you actually know what happened.

:rofl

Seriously man, check in.

Why is it if I disagree with your favored politician, it must be hate? Are you really that.. emotionally vested in Obama?

You are so over the top in your criticism of Obama that it's to the point of being obsessive. Just read your own posts ffs.

Everyone can relax now. The White House is now saying everyone got it wrong and misunderstood what Biden was talking about. They say he was talking about an up stairs room converted into a bedroom not a bunker.
I can see how that can happen they sound that same. Bedroom Bunker, Bunker, Bedroom. Sorry not even close. :spin:

What do you all expect his aide to say?

"Uh Yeah Bidens a little senile or something and tends to blab when hes not supposed to."
"Its ok though we can use stimulus money to build a new secret bunker"

Don't be ridiculous....
He's covering the boss's ass by basically confirming the existence of the bunker with typical mind numbingly bad Obama administration style lying.

Except that you have yet to prove what Biden actually said. Nobody has proven what Biden actually said. Eleanor Clift claims he described a bunker to some dinner mates. Who were they? What did he actually say? You see the problem?

Or Eleanor Clift doesn't have an actual source and she repeating hearsay. Why don't you step up to the challenge I've already laid down and corroborate this single, unverified statement? Can you do that? Or is this all you require in order convict Biden?

If that's the case, if you are completely willing to accept information like this at face value, I have about 200 web articles I want you to read about Cheney and Bush. Your head is going to explode.

RUH ROH SHAGGY!!!!

Here is the "rest of the story."

Anatomy of a Myth: Here's a classic example of an inaccurate story instantly gaining mythological status.
As Mark Silva blogs for Tribune, Washington yesterday was "abuzz with word that Vice President Joe Biden reportedly had disclosed the location of the undisclosed location that his predecessor, Dick Cheney, made mysteriously famous."

Consider the Fox News headline: Biden Reveals Location of Secret VP Bunker.

What set it all off was a blog post by Newsweek's Eleanor Clift: "Ever wonder about that secure, undisclosed location where Dick Cheney secreted himself after the 9/11 attacks? Joe Biden reveals the bunker-like room is at the Naval Observatory in Washington, where Cheney lived for eight years and which is now home to Biden. The veep related the story to his head-table dinner mates when he filled in for President Obama at the Gridiron Club earlier this year. He said the young naval officer giving him a tour of the residence showed him the hideaway, which is behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock with a narrow connecting hallway lined with shelves filled with communications equipment. The officer explained that when Cheney was in lock down, this was where his most trusted aides were stationed, an image that Biden conveyed in a way that suggested we shouldn’t be surprised that the policies that emerged were off the wall."

Roxanne Roberts and Amy Argetsinger write in The Washington Post that Clift's "source" was the club's newsletter, in which club President Dick Cooper of the Tribune Co. recounted what Biden had said to him at the dinner -- fully two months ago.

But Clift apparently put two and two together and got five. The room in question was not Cheney's secret bunker.

As Silva writes: "Elizabeth Alexander, Biden's spokeswoman, offered this explanation this afternoon: 'What the vice president described in his comments was not - as some press reports have suggested - an underground facility, but rather, an upstairs workspace in the residence, which he understood was frequently used by Vice President Cheney and his aides.

"'That workspace was converted into an upstairs guestroom when the Bidens moved into the residence,' Alexander said. 'There was no disclosure of classified information.'"

But too late -- Biden's latest "gaffe" has now entered the pop-culture bloodstream.

Crossed Wires About VP Hide-Out.
Pssstt! Did you hear about Dick Cheney's fortress hideaway under the Naval Observatory? Pass it on!

What seemed to be a bombshell national-security story of the weekend -- how Joe Biden blabbed about a secret bunker under the VP's residence -- began when a bit of secondhand dinner chatter hit the Internet and moved quickly through the blogs. Alas, it pretty much fell apart the minute we started making calls to ... you know, check what turned out to be a game of Telephone, Washington-style:

In March, Biden attended the Gridiron dinner (an annual off-the-record media schmoozefest) and made small talk with club President Dick Cooper of the Tribune Co. At one point, Biden casually mentioned a secure room in his new home, previously used by Cheney and his aides. Per tradition, Cooper recapped the evening for the club newsletter, which was sent out this month.

Last week, Newsweek's Eleanor Clift read Cooper's summary and posted her juicier version on the magazine's blog: "Ever wonder about that secure, undisclosed location where Dick Cheney secreted himself after the 9/11 attacks?" Biden, she wrote, saw the "bunker-like room" when a young naval officer in the residence showed him the hideaway "behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock with a narrow connecting hallway lined with shelves filled with communications equipment."

FoxNews.com ran with the story and chided Biden for "divulging potentially classified information meant to save the life of a sitting vice president" and speculated it was part of a long-rumored underground construction project.
....snip.....
In fact, it's long been reported that Cheney used a Cold War-era bunker in Pennsylvania as his undisclosed location.
....snip.....
Cheney didn't return our calls. Cooper declined to comment, citing the off-the record tradition of the club.

Wow, Eleanor's source is the club newsletter. She didn't even actually hear it from a live person.

:rofl

So, you were saying?

:2funny:

You gotta love the internet.

Yep the internet allows for lies to be believed even more easily.

So now there is no secret bunker, and Biden was talking about a bedroom and it got all mixed up.

GOT IT!

And yes, it takes away from the story that she didn't' hear it for herself. HOWEVER, you wouldn't know that from HER article.

Well, if you had actually followed the Fox article you would have seen that she didn't even write an article. It was Daniel Stone's blog entry that Fox referenced.

Come on Vich, this is bush league.
