I love the title, it sounds like a bunch of Live Action Role Players are making an assault to free middle Earth.

Pakistan to attack Taliban in Bin Laden’s lair - Times Online

Pakistan is to extend its war on the Taliban beyond Swat into the fiercely independent tribal areas bordering Afghanistan where Usama Bin Laden and the Al Qaeda leadership are believed to be hiding.

Anyways, it seems like Pakistan is finally doing what has needed to be done for the past 7 years. The fighting will probably get intense, but it is a necessary and unfortunate consequence of the blowback they brought upon themselves by appeasing and aiding the Taliban for so long.

Maybe they will actually confirm that Bin Laden is dead.

I'm also curious as to what was said during the behind the scenes negotiations, and what promises were made to Pakistan in order for them to launch this offensive. There must have been some pretty substantial talks with India in order for Pakistan to commit a large portion of its army to the Waziristan region and leave their mutual border less defended.

I also suspect a spectacular terrorist attack isn't too far off in Pakistan's future.

After numerous attempts at treaties with the Taliban, the Pakis are finally realizing that they have a major problem on their hands. The military would rather prepare to fight a conventional war with India but it appears that they no longer have this option. Pakistan may not survive this confrontation with the Taliban. It has potential to become a SHTF scenario. Your call on a major attack is probably right on, although it doesn't get more spectacular than the killing of a prime minster on national television.

Exactly, the Paki's need to realize that the Taliban is their problem as well as America's.
