The Chaplain doesn't have a "mission" except to say that he provides spiritual and emotional guidance to troops. They don't leave the wire, they don't carry a weapon, in fact, they don't do much of anything really. They don't have tactical or strategic authority. Sure, they're an officer, but that doesn't mean ****. They don't give orders, they don't impose discipline, they're just a Priest in a uniform with a shiny thing on their collar.
The only perspective that matters really is that this guy:
has clearly gone off mission and he needs to get reacquainted with what specifically his mission and job entail. If he can't separate the duties he actually has from the duties he feels he ought to have then he needs to be removed from his position.
