U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanistan

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

Good for the US soldiers. I think it is a wonderful idea, spreading Christianity like that. Perhaps their knowledge of Jesus Christ will curtail some of the tribal warfare that has been waged for centuries.

It's a damn stupid idea. Religious tract in one hand and M-16 rifle in the other is not credible message for any religion.

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

This is a non-story.

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

Even Iran has Jews..though they tend to be very quiet about it for some reason...

*Fingers crossed* That was sarcasm, right?

No.

It is googly-eyed thinking like this that has gotten us in deep trouble all around the world. These people already have religion, you are insulting them and their culture by talking about Jesus. And frankly, I don't see any historical evidence that Christianity is a peaceful religion...on the contrary.

The willfully blind.

I don't agree with what they are doing, but it should come as no surprise evangelicals are out doing what they feel they are called to do.

Lt. Col. Gary Hensley, the chief of the U.S. military chaplains in Afghanistan, was shown delivering a recorded sermon to other soldiers, saying: "The special forces guys Ğ they hunt men basically. We do the same things as Christians, we hunt people for Jesus. We do, we hunt them down."

He also told soldiers that as followers of Jesus Christ, they all have a responsibility "to be witnesses for him."

"Get the hound of heaven after them, so we get them into the kingdom. That's what we do, that's our business," Al Jazeera’s footage quoted him as saying....

What, exactly, do you expect a Chaplain to preach, other than the basic tenets of his faith?

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

Yeah ... spread the bible through a weapon. That'll get you followers.

Whilst they are soldiers, they are not allowed. Go become a missionary instead.

Leftist always come unhinged at the mere mention of Jesus.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! :rofl

Wouldn't you think, probably not, but give it a try, that converting a few muslims to Christianity might just be a good thing?

Since when is Jesus Christ an insult?

Since when is Jesus Christ an insult?

When people try to force him on other people.

I first off do not think that you'll convert anyone in that particular region just yet. I secondly believe that is not the duty of the US Military. If you want to convert people to Christianity, send missionaries; but not through the military. The handing out of bibles and such, the people knew what they were doing and that it was against army regulation. Regardless of their beliefs, they are held to the constraints and edicts of the military.

When people try to force him on other people.

Where's you proof of this phantom "force?"

You asked a question I answered. I would find it equally insulting if someone wanted to force Allah on others. I'm fairly certain you can see how this is a two way street, or maybe not?

If the Afghanis did not want to hear the message, then why do they listen? After all, it is just a harmless little book they handed out.

Again, What "force?" What did they do? Hold them down and cram the bibles down their throats?

What force are you talking about? Or is this just another baseless leftist BS exaggeration?

They are not forcing anyone to do anything. I mean that is just a little over the top don't you think?

Jesus never called for conversion via the sword according to scripture, some humans did it anyway, but that was a very long time ago and not backed by scripture.

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

The right allowed evangelical Christians to infiltrate the armed services, and this is just wrong.
Come on now, that's more than a bit ridiculous. The enlisted ranks of the military is predominantly xian of one flavor or another. Therefore it isn't necessary to "infiltrate". Xianity is however promoted at all levels of the armed services and there is PLENTY of proselytizing that goes on so it doesn't surprise me nor is this the first report of xians pushing their religion under the protections of our military.

I'm surprised Steven Baldwin and his government promoted proselytizing group wasn't named in the article...

Kill Or Convert, Brought To You By the Pentagon

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

I thought US Soldiers are barred from trying to convert?
If they broke this rule by handing out bibles, why are they still in Afghanistan?
Duh, take a wild guess...

I never said they were forcing. The other poster asked when does Jesus become an insult? I answered.

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

Does such a fringe exist?
I have never seen atheists knocking my door or handing out leaflets before nor preaching but maybe that is just me

From my POV, It does seem to be a more religious thing

Have you ever met Cephus or Slippery Slope?

Actually you did...

In your defense it was in answering his question to you.

You do make it sound like handing out a bible is somehow insulting someone? How? You say not interested and move on. If they keep up after that you have em arrested.

You didn't answer anything. You made a nonsensical statement.
