Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

There are Christians in Afghanistan already?
    News to me again
I thought it was a Muslim country only.
    Of course there are.
No nation is one faith(excluding perhaps the Vatican)

Even Iran has Jews..though they tend to be very quiet about it for some reason...

I don't see the evil in someone giving someone a bible.
Its not national policy. If done too much it could cause problems with some of the locals.

Also give the Afghans some credit they are not lunatic extremists for the most part they are simply people going about their lives. Their leaders will make noises about this but unless it becomes US policy to overtly convert the nation they are not going to go ape crap over it.

The reason they called Jihad(thus the Mujahideen) against the USSR was because the USSR had an overt program of destroying religion.

Its been 8 years as well..and more then enough Afghans have died fighting sideby side with US forces to almost make this an insult.

The enemy though loves this stuff. Helped them alot in Iraq.
The source is al Jazeera which is pretty much undeniably now the propaganda arm of the enemy.

You should have told him your an Athiest, and that we like watching R rated movies and music, and for him to respect you.

*Fingers crossed* That was sarcasm, right?

Its not the job of any military personnel to spread there "faith", whatever that may be. There objectives is given to them by there commander, and when on the job, they follow those objectives and do not engage in an activity that has not been commanded of them. In other words, they are there to fight, not hand out Bibles dressed as santa claus and piss about. Its not there place nor is it there duty to spread there religion. America sent them there to fight, and thats what they will do. Military personnel should keep there religious beliefs to themselves, the military isnt about christianizing states after occupying them.

    Point taken.
Soldiers however are in effect a spokesmen for a country.

These US Soldiers are doing nothing but handing over a PR win to the crazies by allowing them to point and say 'Look, they are after Islam'. The Christian minority will probably be targeted as well.

I like Al Jazeera, i don't think its propaganda. It may have elements of it but almost every media does

Good for the US soldiers. I think it is a wonderful idea, spreading Christianity like that. Perhaps their knowledge of Jesus Christ will curtail some of the tribal warfare that has been waged for centuries.

Yeah ... spread the bible through a weapon. That'll get you followers.

Whilst they are soldiers, they are not allowed. Go become a missionary instead.

It's a damn stupid idea. Religious tract in one hand and M-16 rifle in the other is not credible message for any religion.

It is googly-eyed thinking like this that has gotten us in deep trouble all around the world. These people already have religion, you are insulting them and their culture by talking about Jesus. And frankly, I don't see any historical evidence that Christianity is a peaceful religion...on the contrary.

    The willfully blind.

I don't agree with what they are doing, but it should come as no surprise evangelicals are out doing what they feel they are called to do.
