China says it will quarantine all those who travelled on a flight from Mexico with a man suffering from swine flu, in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.

The 25-year-old man flew to Hong Kong via Shanghai on Thursday, and was admitted to hospital.

Beijing said it would put his fellow passengers under week-long observation. It also suspended flights from Mexico.

SEATTLE -- One more probable case of swine flu has been identified in King County and three more in Snohomish County, bringing the total of probable cases to 16 in Washington state.

In an afternoon press conference, director of King County's Public Health office Dr. David Fleming said the latest probable case is a 9-year-old Des Moines girl. Midway Elementary will be closed next week in connection to this latest case.

Fleming also said over 100 specimens are currently in a state lab waiting H1N1/swine flu testing.

More than 400 schools closed, 161 US flu cases

The government issued new guidance for schools with confirmed cases, saying they should close for at least 14 days because children can be contagious for seven to 10 days from when they get sick. That means parents can expect to have children at home for longer than previously thought.

The Education Department said that more than 400 schools had closed, affecting about 245,000 children in 18 states. That was about 100 more schools reported closed than reported on Thursday.

Major U.S. airlines, meanwhile, announced plans to curtail flights into flu-ravaged Mexico.

It may be spreading, but outside of Mexico it is proving milder than most strains of flu, with a mortality rate on par with the strains seen in most flu seasons.

The economic impacts of all the preventative measures being taken are likely to be more significant than the virus itself.

    Unlikely.

Virus propagation models tend to be ones of attenuation. As a virus moves through a population it becomes less virulent and less deadly.

The one aspect that does lead to a "calm before the storm" scenario is the lateness of the Mexico outbreak in the flu season for the Northern Hemisphere. This strain could return with greater virulence next winter, but, absent that, this influenza strain is proving thus far to be contagious but mild.

What? No calls to shut our borders with China?

Rather surprising, too. Would be the perfect cover for shutting down Chinese imports.

I can't wait till they decide to build that wall between us and China too.

You might notice China put in air travel to/from Mexico restrictions in place.
While in the USA we have watched our government debating how people would feel if they where not allowed to cross the border while excusing the Vice President for talking.

Now on a simple face value look at the two.
China acted competently the USA acted incompetently.
In fact pretty much every nation(excluding perhaps Egypt) acted in a manner early off that makes the US reaction look childish as well as flippant.

Then we do not have a competent President. His appointees are generally made up of people who are not even credible in their jobs. You can't expect much from jokes like that...other then the word definition spin games that we witnessed.

If anyone is upset by this type of dismissal of your mortal life...welcome to being a US soldier...they've been **** on by Obama and his supporters for almost adecade.

How has the US acted incompetently?

My Way News - Swine flu may be less potent than first feared

While the early news out of Mexico was disturbing to say the very least, the virus is not propagating at a rate that justifies use of the term pandemic. The severity and the number of cases just isn't there.
