Biden: Stay Off Subways During Swine Flu Panic

How was this ridiculous though? I personally don't particularly feel like now is a great time to hop on a busy urban subway or get packed into a plane where a stewardess will go up and down the aisles touching every single person as she hands them a drink. :doh

It's irresponsible. This isn't a pandemic (yet if ever), and the VP is cautioning people to stay away from public transportation. For many, that's their own means of getting to work. So will they call out sick because the VP of the United States told them to stay away from public transportation? Do the subway employees, flight attendants and pilots all stay home? This isn't the time for this kind of statement. It's just plain stupid.

If this thing spreads, and we end up with a real horror on our hands, I'll apologize to VP Biden. But for now, I think he's being a fear mongering jackass. :monkey

It was reckless only in that it's his job to calm folks whether folks should be calmed or not.

Personally in light of all the school closures across the country I don't think what he said was all that "out there." The ONLY reason I'm very concerned is that my husband flies a lot. Anyway a woman from the CDC was on tv reminding folks that if their child's school has closed due to a suspected swine case then the healthy kids should literally be kept home in case they are contagious but not yet showing signs. They shouldn't look at "being off school" as an excuse to go to the mall, movies, etc. The CDC has also strongly recommended that states consider closing schools with suspected swine cases, not confirmed mind you- suspected. What school doesn't have at least one kid with a god damn fever?

How are these statements from the CDC any less alarming than what Biden said?

I think all of the above are alarmist and not yet warranted. But it's the CDC's job to issue statements like that. Are we all suppose to stay home every year when the flu hits? I watch the CDC flu map closely every year as my son had the flu a few years ago, and I was terrified because there was so much media hype re: the flu killing kids that year. So from Sept- May, I watch the map. When it becomes widespread, I get cautious. There's very little flu activity now on the CDC map (admittedly, they're always a week behind, but so is the area in which I live). I'm not concerned. I had to stand on line at a town hall in a very busy tourist town yesterday. People were coughing all over the place. I still was not concerned. I'm the type who heads right to the grocery store whenever I hear we're getting another Nor'easter. It just all seems like hype to me with not a lot of reasoning.

I understand your concern for your husband.

Come now, is this the best we can get out of Biden? He's said much more ridiculous stuff. With any luck we'll be getting plenty of laughs for the next 4/8 years.

Did you hear him at the 100 day press party? where he states that what humbles him is the crowds who spontaniously appear who love him?

So they let Biden out of the box and immedietly puts his foot in his mouth. So tell me, do you think it's wise for the VP to make these comments and further fuel this overblown panic?

What do you expect from electing someone with Alzheimers disease as vice president? Biden is wacked out old kook and has been for some time.

Let's not be so hard on Ol' Joe. I kinda like the guy. He reminds me of that old kooky grandpa type with dementia.

I still like the "Stand up Chuck" gaffe the best! :rofl

I can't wait for his next screw up.
