Egypt slaughtering all pigs to stop swine flu

Wow is this how you reply to being found to be making things up? Or are you going to provide ANY evidence for your claims?

Are you playing the victim card? Or is it only a superstition when you want to apply it to people who've decided not to eat meat?

yawn..... did you not smoke up today or what you seem angry.

Now Iraq is killing pigs, too.

Apparently, a pandemic of stupidity hit that part of the world a long time ago.

Clashes erupt over Egypt pig cull
Egyptian pig farmers have clashed with police in Cairo, as they tried to stop their animals being slaughtered.

Hundreds of people at the Manshiyat Nasr slum threw stones and bottles at police who responded with tear gas and rubber bullets.

The government wants to cull all the nation's pigs, a move UN experts say is not necessary to prevent swine flu.

Egypt's pigs mostly belong to the Coptic Christian minority who say the cull has reignited religious tensions.

The authorities initially said the pig cull was a precaution against swine flu but now describe as a general public health measure.

There have been no cases of swine flu reported in Egypt.

In Mexico, where the global swine flu outbreak started, the authorities said it could be stabilising.

Overreaction charge

Mexican Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova said the country was seeing fewer cases every day. Update: BBC

"Many are reared in slum areas by rubbish collectors who use the pigs to dispose of organic waste. They say the cull will harm their businesses and has renewed tensions with Egypt's Muslim majority."

There's your answer to the question why some consider these animals unclean. When you don't have sanitation and working plumbing, pigs are great for eating and clearing away the outdoor "toilets" that people use in such situations.

Nooooooooo. Organic waste can be food scraps, fallen leaves .... etc. They're not really throwing poo into the streets for pigs to eat?!! Nooooooooooooo.

The #1 reason I don't eat pork.

They don't sweat, and they eat anything.

Quite right, organic waste can be food scraps and fallen leaves... but having lived in similar countries and travelled through their poorer districts you will see how the problem of sanitation disposal is handled.

Pigs are incredibly efficient at it.

Have to say the first time I saw it I nearly threw up, it doesn't put me off pork and bacon here in the UK or if I went to the States as we don't feed pigs human waste here.

But think twice about eating a bacon sandwich if you ever travel in North Africa or some Middle Eastern countries.
