'Too late' to contain swine flu (WHO raises alert level)

I just purchased all the bandaids at my local Walmart just in case.

uhm you obviously are not paying attention....

There are hundereds of cases in the US...

That said. It's the freaking flu and a mild version of it to boot. This hype that is out there is nonsense. People just need to deal.

"Uhm" I don't think I mentioned how many cases there were in the US...but perhaps you weren't paying attention

Actually, the military is not designed to function as a human wall to "seal" borders. Hadn't you heard? Besides, the US-Mexican border seems to be working quite well in preventing swine flu from entering the country. Didn't I just hear there has been only one case in Texas?

Uh, yeah the military is designed for just such a purpose. How the hell do you think we fight wars?

Damn...you just never cease to amaze me, boy wonder.

No kidding - everyone hears that a disease is killing people and they completely freak. For some perspective (all numbers from wikipedia), in the 27 days since the outbreak, 160 probable deaths have occurred from swine flu, compared to almost 38,000 from influenza at large (at a rate of 500k per year). It is a new strain that should be fought as it spreads, but the panic and hype is just stupid.

did you see my other thread? Egypt is slaugtering all 300,000 of its pigs.....

its absurd.

Your prevarication seems almost pathological.....

-- As for those masks? They don't work.
Why use it then?

Laila, if you watched BBC Breakfast news today - Dr Rosie Leonard (resident GP) was saying as soon as the masks get wet (breathing / sneezing etc) any virus passes straight through.

They work temporarily while a doctor sees a patient and then have to be disposed off carefully. Relying on one mask over a period of time is a waste of time.
Even then, if you have a beard or uneven face even the best of masks tend to be compromised (one of the reasons many military forces stop their troops having facial hair for when they have to wear masks)

The voice of reason. Thank you.

We have been importing much nastier virus from all over the world like TB from Mexico and hardly anyone blinks an eye.

Swine Flu!!!! :alert  :alert

your ignorance is legendary. Have you no clue as to the difference between fighting a war and sealing a 1,600 mile border?

As of this writing....16 cases in Texas and one death, 0 cases in New Mexico, 0 cases in Arizona. Seems to me the border is doing a pretty fair job of preventing the spread of this virus.

Do you choose ignorance or does it just follow you around?

Well you *do* follow me around......

self ownage, is the best ownage will.

Damn, this girl at work who sits next to me attended a baby shower last week with some family members who flew in from Mexico, and she's been coughing all last week and still this week. She just laughs it off about the swine flu, so how do you force someone to go get checked? Not that I am too worried about myself, but I got an infant I can pass this crap onto.

LOL

They're so panicked over it here in Mexico that we were making jokes about using it to keep the police away. We were out driving back from a night dive last night and the van's headlights decided to only work occasionally. We joked about getting pulled over if they still had the police roadblock up just outside town. We decided that if we did get pulled over, we would all just start coughing and sneezing and tell the cop we were going to the hospital.

I see you are ready to get punk'd again today.

Why don't you start by telling us the difference, brainchild?

Swine Flu FAIL.
