Amazing that they needed nearly 4 years to come to this decision.
It was obvious from the get go after Katrina that rebuilding in low laying area's was rank stupidity.
And yet the mayor stated that this was what was going to happen.
One can but wonder how much money was poured into this ill advised rebuilding plan.

I don't know. The levees on the lake held up. It was the canals that go from the lake into the city that broke. That won't be possible anymore cause they have doors they can close at the lake.

But why they didn't just abandon New Orleans East is beyond me. There are 15 thousand people living there when it used to house almost half the population. Those people could have moved into all the abandoned houses at the lakefront.
My house is on the river high ground and had almost no damage.
Baton Rouge/New Orleans is the largest port in the country. I don't think we can just abandon New Orleans.
