Who here said that racism in the US was all but dead because a black man was elected President?

Well, think again if you were one of them.

Amazing how a biracial kiss featured in a newspaper sparked so much hatred.

ST. LOUIS — Their kiss launched an online frenzy.

This particular kiss wasn't the first for Chris Spencer and his girlfriend, Emilee Murphree. In fact, they are hundreds of smooches into their 21/2- year-old relationship.

But this kiss, captured in a photo April 10 in the Post-Dispatch's Go! section, quickly attracted 350-plus comments on the newspaper's race blog. Specifically, it wasn't the kiss so much as those doing the kissing that created such buzz.

Spencer is black. Murphree is white.

Seriously, who even cares about this anymore? What the Hell is wrong with people?

That (gif image above) was in regards to the interracial relationship itself.

Now, the hate is another story. WTF is wrong with people?

No, they're not.

What?

Why is what a bunch of yahoos has to say (anonymously) at a newspaper site more telling than this couple of 2.5 years never noticing this kind of disapproval before? Now the story is that St. Louis is such a racist city but they never felt that kind of "racism" before?

I think just as many black people are against inter-racial relationships as whites are, too. Black women seem to get really pissed off when black guys go for white girls. (See: Waiting to Exhale  )

To me personally, interracial relationships are a non-issue, too.

Whatever. No matter what rationale you have, it's not worth the argument.

Of course not....can't give up those all important labels, now can we?

Very good post.

You're right, it goes both ways, and when it's anonymous, there is a tendency to lose all manners. I can't help but think, though, that a lot of those feelings are underlying.

Yeah, theres a few dip****s out there left that get pissy over something like this. But most Americans laugh at racists. A lot. True racists are objects of ridicule. Nothing more. Yes, even here in America.

We care about this why?

About them as a couple, we shouldn't

Why care about those that are hating on the couple? I care about society and the progress it makes. This type of blind racial hatred isn't progress.

There will always be asshats, that these two are married, and happy, means that view has WON.

A million million years could go by, and there will still to be found... asshats.

Of course there will be but that doesn't mean their asshat ideas should not be denounced and criticized.

That race is an illusion, at best a quaint fiction and at worst a vicious lie.

That's great but saying "there is no spoon" doesn't change the fact that, to 99% of the population, the male is black and the female is white. The spoon exists to most people.

Really? Have you done a scientific poll on this? What are you backing this up with?

I just have a hard time believing that there are THAT many racists out and about in this day and age.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply they are racists. I meant that majority of the people can acknowledge the fact that each individual is of a different race while being completely accepting of them being together.

I have no problem with two people of opposite races being together. That doesn't mean I can't acknowledge that both are of a different race.

What's "racist" about acknowledging the irrefutable fact that they have different skin color? They do.

Sorry, I didn't imply they were racists. I believe most people are like me. I have no problem with two people of opposite races being together. That doesn't mean I can't acknowledge the fact that each individual is of a different race. In this case, a black man and a white woman.

I understand now. Thanks for explaining it without getting pissy like some people do around here.

For me...I just don't see it. I see class difference much faster than I see racial differences.

Everyone will see something before the other but also believe none of the items should stop the couple from being together if they choose.

I would see it just as wrong if someone brought up their upbringing or income levels in place of their race as reasons for them to not be together. Snobbery is more rampant then racism and is sadly widely accepted.

"At least we got rid of all those richers!"

I love Southpark.

The spoon exists to most people.
That does not make the "spoon" real, no more than it makes "race" real.

The lie is that race even exists. It doesn't.
