Palin stands against abortion during Ind. speech

She challenged the notion that children must be born perfect and that unplanned pregnancies are inconvenient and can be ended by abortion. "I know for sure my son is perfect just as he is, made in the image of God," she said.

She asked the crowd to keep working for the "culture of life" in America.

"Life is ordained, life is precious," she said.

Palin said women who can't give birth should have the opportunity to adopt children who might otherwise be aborted. She mentioned that her own daughter Bristol became pregnant as an unmarried teen and has since given birth to a son.

Is there any doubt that the social conservatives in the Republican party wish argue against choice do so from a religious stance and do not care about those who do not share their purely religious beliefs?

Bolded : Did she just say that God is a retard? Haha. Funny.

Well it seems so with Palin so that's like what, 1? Very empirical assertion.

I'm just going to assume that when you elect a party leader (Gov. of Alaska, VP of Republicans) you do so because they best represent your own particular views and values. Am I wrong? If not, I assume that's more than one.

Some environmentalists fight against global warming and wish for society damaging actions to be taken to fight against it because mother earth or gaia is a tangible spirit and entity that physically is pained and killed by drilling and other things assossiated with it. Naturally, is there any doubt that all that democrats are pushing Global Warming only because they feel the earth is a god like being that is being damaged and killed by our acts?

Some people are against abortion due to the religious reasons, others are not. Yes, religious people are trying to push their views on the issue into law. Likewise, non-religious people are wishing their view pushed on.

You may say "well, its not THEIR body, its not forcing them to do it", however they view it as a human just as the others view it just as a fetus. As such, the wanton killing of a human without cause is a societal issue and does affect others, just as murder does. I hate this idiotic feeling that religious people can't vote their consicious in regards to societal issues and yet anti-religious people can do it without any issue. The consitution states there's no establishing a state religion, I see no where that it states that a citizen can not cast their vote or push for laws based on their beliefs and morals that were created due to religion.

I'm not sure that's a strictly accurate view of the Gaia hypothesis but anyway you make a good point. To get anything like a complete political, social and economic worldview all people draw on metaprinciples and beliefs and secularists, democrats and liberals are no different.

Opposition to abortion can be argued from the principles of several religions, from secular bioethics, and from political positions such as libertarianism and Constituionalism. People who oppose abortion may do so from any of those positions or from all of them.

Absolutely awesome post, bro. Kudos, and consider that line stolen.

This is one of the reasons I so like Gov. Palin. She's neither ashamed of her views, nor afraid to stand up and make it clear her views.

I always find teh argument about religious values effecting political views being bad to be amusing. We all have our reasons for supporting whatever it maybe, as Z pointed out the Gaia GW bit, or whatever.

We all have values, beliefs, principles. Why are religious principles any different then "Well it's what I have decided is right" basis for stands?

Go Sarah, you rock.

Side note, why is Alaska so economically stable, prepared and running smoothly yet Palin is considered an idiot. while New York or Cali are on teh verge of collapse and their leaders are considered smart?

Ditto.

Common sense and good fiscal policy by Palin vs arrogance and elitism by the slapnut liberals.

Serious Q: What about this is breaking news, as opposed to just partisan politics?

Sarah Palin gave a speech opposing abortion. Did this shock anyone? Was anything new gleaned from this?

Why do you think it has to be for purely religious beliefs? Perhaps it is based on moral beliefs.

Why do you think it is okay to argue FOR killing a human being, but bad to argue for their lives? Why is abortion/killing a better option than choosing life?

I am not religious; I don't attend a church; I am not a member of a church; but I do believe that on demand abortion is an abomination and that there are MUCH better choices for dealing with unwanted pregnancy than aborting a living being.

I am hardly surprised to see you laughing and thinking this debate is a BIG joke. Apparently morality and life is something you find amusing and to be mocked. Others take it much more serious and act in a more mature manner when discussing it.

It's her first big public event in a while, and she came out swinging. Why would that be partisan politics? By that measure, any time Obama gives a speech should be down there too.

Because who cares? Did she say anything new? Should we start breaking news threads every time any of the 20 most influential people in each party give their stump speech?

By that measure, any time Obama gives a speech should be down there too.

Any time that Obama goes out and gives his standard stump speech should be in partisan politics (if not ignored altogether). The concept of breaking news as I perceive it is that something is newsworthy.

Obama: "I think we should all stick together and work hard to get out of the recession" =/= News

Palin: "Abortion is bad" =/= News

Obama: "I think we should all stick together and agree to tax whitey in order to fix the economy" = NEWS

Palin: "Yea, Trig is actually mine. I had like four others too, but they were ugly so I just buried them in the woodshed." = NEWS

Nice to see how popular and politically powerful Palin is. :usflag2:

No, YOU did. I highly doubt she thinks of her beautiful son as a "retard." She's not a scum bag. Ask any DECENT mother of a special needs child if they think their child is perfect, and they will beam and say, "yes." If you think they are less, you would be wrong and no one I would want my child to emulate.

For someone who sees prejudice around every corner, you sure aren't terribly tolerant of those different from you (assuming you're not retarded).

Well you're a mod, and part of CC's HP Posse....

Well you're a mod, and part of CC's HP Posse....

Confusion has struck.

CC = Closed-Captioned?

HP = Hewlett-Packerd?

...I haven't been here long enough to get much of a handle on the internal politics.

I hope the Republican Party gets behind this female Maverick and pushes her to the top of their ticket! Socially conservative, fiscally responsible, an unashamed Christian, a stalwart defender of gun ownership, and a sweet ass.

Except for the whole "not knowing stuff" she's damn near perfect.

Not that I know what that means, but what does that have to do with anything that I said?

Are you actually trying to say that this is news? Did you learn anything from this? Did anyone?

I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's FEARSOME!!!!

Why down at the liberal headquarters building we have put up jersey barriers and concertina just because we heard she was coming to town.

:rofl:rofl:rofl

What doesn't she know? She was smeared furiously by the media but I don't think she is particularly stupid by any means.

Who said she was stupid? I said she didn't know stuff. And she didn't, or else she did a damn good job at acting ignorant on multiple occasions. I don't know if you missed the entire presidential race or what, but the woman was a joke. Smeared by the media? Right. Exposed by the media in a really harsh manner and pounded into the ground? Certainly. She's a bigger joke than Biden.

When? From memory a lot of those instances were blown out of proportion by the media. Remember the "Africa is a country one"?
