Freedom of speech, as long as you agree with the Left. It seems typical of many of these protest groups.

Yes. And criticizing the Dixie Chicks and refusing to buy their stuff were unconscionable acts of censorship and McCarthyism. ;)

(Sarcasm added per user request)

There is a big difference between private citizens boycotting something or someone and a public school doing the same thing.

Seriously...you're going back to McCarthyism? Sorry, when I was talking about "these protest groups" I was speaking of relatively recent years.

Dixie Chicks is nothing like that. That is the free market speaking. If you can show me an instance where protests occured that either kept large amounts of people from entering a Dixie Chicks concert or was loud/obstructing enough to cause the concert to not be able to happen, then you'd have a point.

Refusing to buy their stuff is not "Censorship". Protesting the advertisers of a a radio station playing their music is not "censorship". Nothing is stopping them from physically being able to be heard or to speak.

Shouting down a speech so its physically impossible for anyone to hear it and inciting fear for ones safety through the breaking of private property is COMPLETELY different than choosing not to buy a CD.

Jesus christ.

You may want to re-read my post in the context of this news story and this thread.

You guys, again, need to get your sarcasm meters checked.

Man, on other boards, I'm taken as sarcastic when I don't mean to be. Here, people don't seem to be able to tell when I do.

Why don't they go to Mexico and protest the government not providing jobs for the people?

So that they have to leave their families behind and live in a foreign country?

Liberals can never pick out the real culprit!

No, but people throwing their Dixie Chicks cds into a pile to be bulldozed was a hilarious event to behold. They may as well have flushed their money down the toilet. It's no different than people burning their Beatles records because Lennon said that they were bigger than Jesus.

Your post is Epic Fail.

Broadcast networks didn't censor the dixie chicks, they made a good business decision by not running their crap ad/movie. Hardly McCarthyism.

Heh, rereading and knowing you're intent now, I see what you were getting at Harshaw.

My apologizes. Suggestion for you. Combine this.

With this

Typically, a smiley will cause people pause and may make them reread something to see if there's sarcasm in it. I used it in another thread when I essentially told libertarians to go **** themselves (in a Ron Burgundy-esque way).

Smiley's help out with indicating sarcasm on this great series of tubes.

I didn't know that the government forbid the Dixie Chicks from speaking out or selling their "stuff". When did this happen?

Barking up the wrong tree, guys. It may not have been clear from the initial post, but it should be by now.

No problem, as has already been pointed out, a wink or a smile can go along way in regard to intent. ;)

Bizarro.

These people put their opinions out in the free market, and that market reacted.
Nothing more.
No government forced them to speak or told them not to speak.

If you want to blame anyone blame the Dixie Chicks and/or the lefty Manhattanites and the Malibu crowd for not buying their tickets and eating their feces.

They obviously did not know or understand their market.
Or their market mistook them for Patriotic Americans until proven otherwise.
That's life.

The moral of the story?
Know your audience.
Sometimes political activism can sink a career.
Sometimes a choice must be made... politics or (in this instance) music... or the choice may be made for you.

Well, if you want to add one in for me, that would be fine, because I can't edit it now. People don't seem to be able to read past that post, so it might be a good idea. :)

Look at the post times. When I was writing my post, yours was the last post in the thread at #3.

8 posts popped within minutes of each other. It got vicious quick on you.

It's all good now.

It's a sad state of affairs when posts like yours are taken seriously rather than sarcastically... such is the opposition... they've taken lunacy to the point of belief and policy.

Apologies.

Go Tar Heels!

They're representing Orange County liberals well. Bahahha.

No but seriously.

People are ****ing clueless, especially this Colorado speaker. A handful of protesters does not make the school radically left-socialist, nor do they have an agenda except to not get HIVs, a drinking ticket, and/or fail their class.

I'm disappointed that the rowdy bunch vandalized UNC property, but this speaker needs to take notes form the infamous "Pit Preacher" who tours UNC System campuses preaching "all gays will go to hell", something about blacks and something about women not being the equivalent of men... he makes a loop and is hated by almost everyone who listens to him.

Campus Crusade normally holds a counter-preaching session next to him and his apprentices. Non-Christians normally hold counter-preaching in his face.

UNC-CH is the first public school. There are a great deal of conservatism within the UNC school system, and the surrounding area. Sure there are radical liberals, but this is not a substantial representation of the student body.

oh and Bee Tee Dub,
University of North Carolina has many school branches. UNC-A(sheville) UNC-C(harlotte) UNC-C(hapel)H(ill) UNC-W(ilmington), ECU (East Carolina University), ASU (Appalachian State University), UNC-P(embroke) and I am probably missing one or two.
