North Korea to Restart Nuclear Weapons Plant

We need to carry out strikes against North Korea's nuclear facilities in and around Punyongyang.

Kim Jong Jackoff has been been given more then enough warning about his nuclear numbnuttery.

Now he can go **** himself.

Sounds fine to me. But before we do that, we should evacuate the US troops out of Seoul, okay? Cuz if we attack NK, they're going to shoot back.

With Obama's track record. He'll open up unilateral talks, bow, hand them iPods & DVD's, then pull a Clinton and give them $10 billion in aid, to deter them from their nuclear ambitions.
Or he might just do like Bush and give them what they all the nuke tech they want in exchange for some mangos...

Nah, Obama is smarter than that. :hammer:

That's a very apt description. The NK's can't win a war, they know it. So they base everything on inflicting the most damage they can in hopes that prevents them from being attacked.
Isn't that the idea behind the nuclear deterrent?

So you have no problems sacrificing millions of civilians not to mention ripping the heart out of one of our biggest trading partners not to mention the 11th largest economy in the world?

And let's not even start on the losses we'll suffer from beating back a North Korean advance. We'll win in the end, but the costs will be high. This ain't desert warfare.

It's not all our choice, the SK have to agree to it. The current belief is that the NK govt' will eventually implode and that will least bloody way out of this mess. There is some merit to that line of thinking.

Perhaps, but last I checked that was based on a stable line of succession. We don't know if that will happen. The best realistic outcome would be a Cuba like transition we're seeing. North Korea exploding into a civil war with nukes is pretty horrific.

I know!

I have a way with words.

I wouldn't doubt that South Korea's economic success is playing into North Korean strategy.

You miss the point my friend, if we attack their nuclear facilities, there is a very good chance they will attack South Korea. And THAT will kill millions.

I doubt it --- North Korea will be in shambles --- a good portion of their military machine would be damaged or destroyed after a preemptery strikes to clear the way for the bombers.
....

Then if they attacked ... the entire world would gang rape North Korea like the whores they are.

Their betting the world won't attack. Risk millions dead for what?

All while everything within 35 miles or so of the DMZ burns to a crisp...

How many millions of innocent people are you willing to sacrifice?

Then if they attacked ... the entire world would gang rape North Korea like the whores they are.

And then their nukes would come out and we'd have millions more dead not to mention significant parts of the Korea Peninsula radioactive.

The US military not to mention anyone else simply does not have the capacity to stop the thousands of artillery pieces North Korea has that are aimed south before they can launch their salvos.

The better option would be to sabotage their uranium mines to curtail or severely slow growth. So they get a few weapons out of it. Without more raw materials, they can't make more.

I think it's pretty obvious what NK is trying to do here. They're trying to prompt harsh reactions from Japan and South Korea and divide the international community. This comes just as a warming in relations between the parties are becoming evident. The East/West dichotomy is dissolving and that's not in NK's best interest.

Remember, while most people hated the Cold War and the fear of nuclear apocalypse, the DPRK benefited greatly from it. They had the unwavering support of China and Russia during the Cold War in the form of aid and unconditional military support.

Here's what I think they're trying to do:

1) obtain a viable cache of nuclear weapons
2) divide the international community

The best way to resolve the problem of goal 1 in the long term is to prevent goal 2.

Yes, they are. The are backing the wrong horse.

I do see you point. There is no reason to sentence civilians to die because North Korea has its head up its ass.

There has to be some way of stopping North Korea. Outside of military action; I would say... toppling the current government of North Korea is the only viable option.

Oooh ... good idea!

I like the way you think.

That I'd like to see. Especially from the Obama bashers who these days resemble the Democrats of 2004. Offer nothing but criticism and completely unrealistic 'plans.' The GOP's 'budget' plan as Don pointed out was beyond wishful thinking and into the realm of LSD induced dreaming. So instead of just bashing and offering candy land alternatives, how about something realistic for a change?

Or is that simply too much to ask?

Red herring. Please stay on topic.

I was wondering how North Korea was getting the uranium to feed to their breeder reactor to get their weapons grade plutonium. I was pretty sure no one is selling it to them. The export regime is pretty good about not exporting to sketch countries. With their mines shut down and their reactors off line, they'd be limited to whatever waste they have now. It's a stop gap measure by far, but better than rising millions of South Korean lives as well as our own in fighting another war. Without material, a nation or group trying to make nukes is quite limited. It's a reason why both Obama and McCain were dead on the money when they proclaimed their mutual desire to secure all radioactive materials across the planet.
