It's up to the Puntland authorities who are recognized by the UN as the "government of Somalia" (in the de jure sense at least) to end piracy in accordance with their international obligations.

the obvious solution is to mine the coast.

that way we don't have to bomb civilians and pirates will only die if they're stupid enough to sail into a minefield.
And why does your tone suggest that you do not care about children?

Change the law? It seems obvious to me.

Ships should arm themselves, the pirates are armed.

LOL, Puntland abide by laws? Those out of control savages who are in Govt?

Puntland are the ones who are funding it. They have been building ports and smuggling weapons for a very long time.

The govt. gets bribes off the pirates which means that when they are caught, they are released without a hanging

Puntland are the ones who are funding it. They have been building ports and smuggling weapons for the Islamists along with the south for a very long time.

Frankly, I think the world would be a better place if the government of Somaliland was in charge. Too bad they don't want that....

LOL. Sea mines are the epitome of an indiscriminate weapon, largely abandoned due to their hazard to friendly forces as well as civilians.

I bet modern mines could safely deny 10 mile area off the coast of somalia.

Even if civilians occasionally hit them, it'll cause way fewer deaths then bombing cities.

Somaliland is in charge of it's borders and if any one was caught with pirates- They'd be in jail very fast. We will not expand and try and take charge of land that is not ours.

Appeasement has worked for decades, not going to stop anytime. Bombing will solve nothing and neither will entering Somalia.

You do realise going past Somalia is not the only shipping lane. One can go past South Africa which is much more safer.

Around 1% of ships actually get hijacked but people make it sound like it is the end of the world and every ship is being hijacked.
    ENOUGH!!!!

The somali pirates will cease their activities or THE WILL DIE!

Stop defending them and stop defending bull**** appeasment.

1% is too damn many. Accept it.

Piracy is going to be punished severely. The Somali government (if you can call it that) WILL assist in ending the piracy OR THEY WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR IT.

.... and this is EXACTLY WHY BOMBING THOSE PORTS IN NECESSARY. If the local scumlords are not going to prevent it, they WILL pay the price for it.
