Thats what occured. So the commander acted.

    The Commander acted..not Obama.
Obama did not order the action be taken he left it to others. I also highly doubt he had any clue anything like this was going to occur and probably preferred it had not.

Left to Obama the hostage would have joined the others hostages somewhere in Somalia.

    Good Job Seals/Navy/Commander on scene.
    Obama?...whatever.

(I especially like how the new media push is Obama gave authorization twice!..and he ordered it....

IN the morning it was the Naval Commander had acted at the moment with the Authorization given him by Obama.

Two different things..BUT one of them doesn't make Obama the hero. SO a snip there an addition here and a slight change of wordage over there and the narcissist has his day.)
This isn't really all that helpful ya know?

Obama gave the one important order that mattered "Use force if..."

That freed the men on the ground (as it were), to act without getting everything from Washington. THAT is outstanding, and I hope such a trend continues. We can have decent debates over the merits of the "Hostage threatened" clause instead of just taking the bad guys out straightaway and that could be interesting.

Obama freed the Navy to act, and they took the first chance they could to act. That's all that matters. Period.
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

Don't worry. Elsewhere he'll still be Dear Leader. This does not change my disgust for his politics or his policies.

In this he made the right call, and I give him credit for that.

I would like to give kudos to some of our resident conservatives who often rail against Obama for demonstrating solid integrity and consistency in supporting him and congratulating him on his decision.

    Good for all of you.

Of course there are some clueless partisan hacks out there that won't get it no matter how obvious it is that they are wrong.

I am going to say three things:

    1. I consider the man a horrible President and an absolute mistake of democracy. Of all the potential candidates for President he is without a doubt the least accomplished, the least visionary, the least intelligent, and the least deserving of high office. As President, he has been an embarrassment to the United States upon the world stage.

    2. No President has any business micro-managing a fluid event like a kidnapping/taking of hostages by pirates. Frankly, by drawing up orders that gave the operational commanders in the area full operational control, he did the right thing. Perhaps he was spoon-fed the orders by the Secretary of Defense, or perhaps he came up with them himself. I do not know, nor do I care. If the operational commanders on the scene had the command prerogative to launch this rescue mission when it seemed Captain Phillips' life was in immediate danger, then kudos to the CinC for giving them that flexibility and then staying the hell out of the decision making. Had the go/no-go decision on a rescue effort been limited to the Oval Office, Captain Phillips would be dead.

    3. There are an abundance of reasons to loathe and despise this President. There are an abundance of reasons to consider him an error of democracy. Captain Phillips' rescue is not one of those reasons.

OK, that's just flat out impressive. 3 bullets, 3 down.

Triad, I don't care. I'm damned proud of my country today, and it feels good. I'm sure tomorrow Mr Obama will piss a lot of us off with something else, but today he done good authorizing force.

Pah...SEAL snipers I would expect nothing less.

(although I'm fairly certain that MARINE snipers would have gotten the fourth pirate as well, and probably still with just 3 bullets! )

I would have expected it, too, understanding the training a SEAL goes through (I had a friend who was one). Even though it may have been just another day at work for them, to me, damn impressive.
