Exactly. France is largely irrelevant now yet French is still taught in our schools. French was previously "the language of diplomacy." This has changed to English and I would say the two most important languages (after English) to teach children are Spanish and Mandarin. The relevance of Spanish is even questionable.

Actually, this thread does remind me of a joke.

    q. how do Chinese name their kids?

    a. they throw all their silverware up in the air, and whatever noise the silverware makes when hitting the floor is the kid's name.

But for real, if we want to start talking about difficult last names, start with the Polish or Indian ones. I talked to an Indian lady last week who had about 15 letters in her last name.

So americanwoman insults two ethnic groups after critisizing State Rep. Betty Brown (R) for doing the same thing. Then danarhea has an issue with the pronunciation of Palin.

Truly a double shot of EPIC FAIL.

I don't have an issue with it at all. It was just a joke, sourpuss.

AGAIN- I was joking. She was not. There is a difference.

Because you don't seem to get it let me spell it out to you- Some ethnic names are hard to spell and pronounce. I pointed that out, in a joking manner. Representative Betty wants a group of people to actually change their names.

So tell me how it's insulting to point out two groups have names that are hard to say in a joking way and how that is comparable to a State Representative wanting people to actually change their names? I await your absolute ignoral of the difference.

Also Dana was talking about the names in Palin's family, not the actual Palin name. I assume that one probably just went over your head but if you still don't get it, I am sure Dana would be happy to explain it very s-l-o-w-l-y for you.
I call my own shots, largely based on an accumulation of data, and everyone knows it.

You're just full of epic fail, as usual. You see where I bolded, and underlined for you. The part I highlighted from your post was in regard to last names.

    See, right here:

Besides the apparent trolling, I have no idea where you stand on this issue. Until then I will just consider your attack on Dan and the OP as a defense of this Representative.

OK, you are right, and I am wrong, and to show you that I am serious about this, I will prove it by naming my next kid Toaster Oven.
