Turkish authorities arrested a man who allegedly plotted to pose as an Arab news network journalist to kill U.S. President Obama, a Saudi newspaper said Monday.

The man, said to be of Syrian descent, was arrested Friday and allegedly confessed he intended to stab Obama with a knife during the president's visit to Turkey, the Saudi daily Al Watan reported. The man, who was carrying a press card identifying him as an employee of al-Jazeera, allegedly said he had three accomplices.

The Jerusalem Post, which reported about the al Watan article, said Turkish authorities didn't know whether the identification card was a fake.

Yussef al-Sharif, al-Jazeera's Ankara bureau chief, told the Saudi newspaper the ID card was "most certainly" forged. He said the alleged assassination plot came as a surprise to the Qatari network's staff, who said they didn't know the suspect.

The Italian news agency Adnkronos International, which also quoted the Saudi newspaper, said the Syrian man was arrested in Istanbul. It said he had been permanently living in Istanbul for a number of years.

Thank you to the Turkish authorities for finding this out. Though I would hope that a plot this simple would be caught by the Secret Service, I'm a bit nervous at how slow they responded to the shoe throwing incident.

Honestly, i would be a bit embarrassed if some lunatic stabbed my President and was not Bruce Lee.

Try like 30 minutes of air-time. These modern ballers can veto while in the air.
 
The only sport I watch, which is only very occasionally (as in when one of my friends has an extra ticket to a game) is hockey. Because baseball is boring, basketball is handball for genetic freaks and football is like watching a screaming commercial for three hours. In hockey people that are normal human beings (not eight foot tall monsters or 800 lb human bombs that have been shaped into a ballistic object) compete in an actual sporting event.

That's because they've stopped calling traveling in basketball. Basketball doesn't follow it's own rules, it's lost all credibility. It should be taken off the air so we aren't subjected to the boring, cheating sport and instead put on something awesome like hockey. There's a real sport.
 
Had the guy been a tax cheat he could've gotten close enough to Obama to stab him.

Triad supports Presidential Assassinations, Joe Biden, and appears to be ignorant to what happens to the legacy of a President that is killed in office.
