Can anyone explain why, in this time of national fiscal crisis, we need to pay to educate illegal aliens, when we should be arresting their butts and hurling them across the border?
I am so glad my state signed the tax payer protection act aka HB 1804.It basically stopped giving illegals tuition in my state. What was funny about that bill is that the same governor who approved of free college money and in-state tuition to illegals is the same one who signed HB1804 into law.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I'm far more disgusted by the way the vote was scheduled than by the outcome.

Do you have a source for those numbers, or did you just make them up on the spot because they sounded nice?

Because whether you like it or not, most of them are going to be living in this country for the rest of their lives. I'd rather that they get good educations and become productive members of society, some of whom will go on to create jobs for Americans. You seem to prefer that they remain uneducated, and join drug-running gangs or live on welfare. Why is that?

I thought they sounded pretty nice.

I am actually curious though what the ROI is. If it's not substantial then it's definitely not worth it.

They're not increasing the number of spots that the university will have, they're just shifting the burden of paying for them from the students to the taxpayers.

By that logic, the result of passing this bill will be a bunch of uneducated Coloradans on welfare and running drugs.

Then presumably those seats will be need-blind, and the university will admit the students it feels are the best fit. That's a good thing, right?

If there are more people who want to go to a university, then they can establish another university. Or they can select from a broader talent pool, instead of selecting only people with the good fortune of being born north of the border.

Admission is already need-blind. The only thing this is doing is just allowing illegal immigrants who would otherwise have had to pay out of state tuition to save money. If they want to establish another school or increase the number of students, nothing is stopping them from doing that.
