I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. Last night I sought to end that silence. Last night I destroyed the Old Bailey, to remind this country of what it has forgotten. More than four hundred years ago a great citizen wished to embed the fifth of November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words, they are perspectives. So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you then I would suggest you allow the fifth of November to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me one year from tonight, outside the gates of Parliament, and together we shall give them a fifth of November that shall never, ever be forgot.

You're right, at the beginning of the thread i was more angry with the police but when i reflected back on it a while ago and started seeing footage on BBC from the sky view - It was made harder for me to criticse all of them for what a minority of them did.

But i still stand by the fact attacking the climate camp was unprovoked and uncalled for

If your characterization of the actions of the police is prone to such a significant shift based on 15 minutes reflection, might I suggest not making such ridiculously inflammatory statements in the first place? It might spare you the indignity of changing your mind later on.
 
What was the point in this?
No one was attacking the police and no one was damaging property ... And i don't understand how anyone can defend it

around 19:45 police push into the south side of the climate camp on bishopsgate. this short film shows the campers calling out "this is not a riot" and holding their arms in the air, while riot police surge forward wielding batons and shields in an unprovoked attack.

bikes, tents and personal belongings were damaged and lost in the attack. several people were injured. reports of several arrests. at one point a small group of people are trapped between riot police coming in from a side entrance on the east, and more pushing up from the south.

this footage must be seen by the justice committee on 'policing protests'. almost every one of their recommendations are broken. reports have come in of wide use of anti-terror legislation and also intimidation of photographers.

It was not 15 minutes but my shift only has changed through reflection in a small way. I agree that the police overall did a good job but they did provoke and did attack the climate change people for no reason and some of their behaviour was questionable. Locking us in from all corners for hours does nothing but inflame

I guess the glass breakage happen by itself. And knowing the police can ONLY get negative publicity, they decided to beatup people for no reason.

It's part of police training to pick certain groups and only beat them up. Environazis are at the top of the list.

What part of the enviromentals was THE most peaceful do you not seem to grasp?

Perhaps they are crazy in US but in Europe, they are the most peaceful and non violent

It couldn't have had anything to do with the fact that they were camping in the middle of the road, could it? Were they supposed to be there? How many times were they asked to move before the police forced them to?

A lot of the "direct action" crowd could rightly be considered terrorists; especially the guys who arrived with weapons and police uniforms.

The roads were shut down Bullet and the Government was informed of it weeks prior to that.

When a protest is occuring in UK, All concerned roads are shut down for a certain period. This was a legal protest and the police cannot remove people for no reason.

Terrorists for protesting? Jesus christ :doh

"direct action" != protesting... Dressing in police uniforms, bringing weapons, and trying to stir chaos != protesting.

I saw no one attacking the police, damaging windows. Most were sitting down were they not? So what did they do to warrant that? You tell me.

That was in Bank of England not the climate change protest. Two completley different protests.

Don't forget that 4 different protests occured in London yesterday

bishopsgate - Climate
Trafalgar - Stop the war
Bank of England - A mixture of trade unions, anarchists, anti capitalists and normal people

I'm not sure the action against the encampment was warranted... I doubt the anti-terror laws were applied to those people.

They weren't, most people were sitting down - drinking, listening to music and smoking and then all of a sudden. The riot police started surrounding them. They were not needed in bishopsgates, they were needed near Bank of England where people WERE damaging property and attacking police.

It was, under the anti terror laws, they can use force and arrest people.
Police used the laws on the run up to the G20 as well
