Shasta County Homeless Working On Lawsuit Against Redding Police

CALIFORNIA -3/27/09 "David Delo is among the thousands of homeless living in Shasta County. He says its been getting more difficult to live within the city limits as Redding police officers crack down on illegal camping. Delo says many are warned, cited or sometimes even sent to jail. And when that happens, they're belongings are left behind.

“To have it disappear like that when you need it, it does tend to make you mad. And knowing that there's nothing you can do about it,” Delo said.
Delo says their rights have been violated because their properties are thrown out before they can claim it. That's why Chris Solberg of the Redding Loaves and Fishes is filing a lawsuit against the city.

“As far as I'm concerned, this is Redding's dirty little secret about the homeless,” Solberg said. ”They have such a heavy hand that they forced the majority of them to move to the city limits. And deep into the brush where services are that much harder to get.”

By law, the Redding police department is required to hold all personal belongings for 90 days. Something Solberg says they're not doing. He says he represents about two dozen cases and wants to put a stop to the injustice. But Redding Police Lieutenant Scott Mayberry says it’s untrue.

“I've never heard that. I'm not aware of that. That's against our policy,” Mayberry said. “And if in fact that's the case, as a department we would take action. That's not what we do.”

The homeless are an embarrassment to everyone else, so we need to get rid of them. How about just lining them all up behind City Hall, shooting them, then burying them in a big mass grave? That'll solve the problem, and those "dirty" people won't be around any longer to gnaw at peoples' consciences.

These people need to get a job. Thats why we are spending trillions of dollars, to get them to go to work, and all they want to do is camp out ... in a no camping area no less.

Yes, jobs are a good idea. Good thing we have such a high unemployment rate and more jobs are being lost by the second. That should open up plenty of space for these guys to work!

I guess I need to work on my sarcasm and witt. My true feelings are very much akin to yours and Danarhea`s. I coined the term MONEY WHORE in DP and it fuels my rage at the phucks who created this ugly America of joblesness, poverty, homelesness, and slavery in globalism. That said, please don`t confuse me with a left wing socialist or right wing money whore. What I fail to see, almost anywhere, is an invigorated ( perhaps grass roots) effort to shut down the game plan of the money whores who are enslaveing the entire world. I seldom see or hear any rage at the criminal activities of those who brought about our new milenial economy. I don`t think we should order the killing of the cops who are destroying the last vestige of life, of these homless peoples, but certainly a few weeks liveing in a tent might be appropriate job counceling.
