House GOP releases budget blueprint

Congratulations Republicans, you've just entered humor (that thing liberals are always going on about). Sadly you're being laughed at, rather than with.

This is the new internet macro.

Moderator's Warning:
Okay, that's enough funny pictures of the "budget". Let's not troll Zyphlin's thread.

First piece of the puzzle:

Under their proposal, House Republicans promise to simplify the tax code and cut income tax rates to 10 percent for people making $100,000 or less.

It's a start in the right direction. I'll reserve further judgement until we get more pieces.

:rofl The only number in their entire "plan" was to give gigantic tax cuts to rich Americans! Cutting from 35% to 25% is outrageously STUPID, neigh, RETARDED!

The only thing the party of NO can ever suggest are tax cuts and of course, "DRILL BABY DRILL."

How did that strategy work out for the Party of No last Fall? Maybe we should ask President McCain and Vice President Palin?

It's not really what works best for the party or not, its what will pay our debts while still allowing the government to function at a reasonable level.

IMO Medicare and Medicaid need to be completely scraped.

They are a big part of what is causing health care prices to rise.

Social Security needs to be completely scraped, the nut jobs in Washington have proven that they can't keep their hands out of the cookie jar.
Interesting. So how do people, especially the elderly, get healthcare, meds, etc.? It sounds to me like you'd like to see them rounded up and eliminated. Is this your final solution?

Yes it is, right after I establish the Nazi empire.

What you and others are not understanding is that those programs are unsustainable and no amount of Nazi name calling is going to fix it.

At this moment, the government has an internal debt of around 35-50 trillion.
That is between Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid.

For more info on my Nazi empire see link below.

You're right, how did ANYONE live past the age of 65 before Medicare? How did they survive before the invention of all the $10k/month prescriptions that allow 80 year olds on feeding tubes to lie there, mildly sentient, for a few extra years? How did the elderly make do without Medicare Part D?

God, it just sounds unfathomable. Almost like a Nazi regime.

Where do I sign up to be a part of this great Nazi empire you all speak of?

A good portion lived with their children.

1) Okay, but even if true, so what? If people are going to be a burden on someone, it should be their family, not my family.

2) Do you think that markedly more old people lived with their family, say, 5 or 10 years ago? If not, that's not responsible for the recent upswing in costs.

Reminds me of Cheech & Chong's Big Bamboo Album

Tortured Old Man

Nazi: And how come you cannot sign zee papuhs

Old Man: Because you have broken all of my fingers

Step 1: Reform (actually "Reforms", good job on the typo) medicare and medicaid.

it's not a typo. see the other part where they use "limits" instead of "limit," as though [cringe] the agent of these actions is "Republican Road to Recovery."

here is an example of a typo:

Cutting from 35% to 25% is outrageously STUPID, neigh, RETARDED!

In the 60s a man could expect three years of retirement(must be the hated medicare) until he gets the dirt nap now it’s ten.

Sooo…son, it kinda looks like your wishing that you had your parents living with you for the last ten years of their life rather than being healthy and self sufficient on their own. ;)

In 1960, the life expectancy at age 65 was 14.3 years. Now it's 18.7. An increase to be sure, but nothing like the magnitude you suggest.

I'm hoping that they'll be able to live healthy and sufficiently to the end of their lives without relying on Medicare or SS. By the time they retire, I doubt either will in decent shape.

How old are you? My Dad died of stomach cancer. When he was diagnosed he was told he had 6 months but he held on for almost 4 years. Up until the day he died he thought there was a chance that there would be a cure found for his cancer.

The cost of his disease was well over $1 million. Without SS and Medicare he would have died sooner because he would not have had available to him the treatments that extended his life. By living longer he was able to meet his grand daughter, hold her, get to know her and even though my daughter was too young to remember we have videos and pictures of them together...all because of SS & Medicare.

Is there anyone in this community who thinks our tax money was wasted on my father and indirectly on me, my family and my daughter?

To think that your parents are going to be healthy until the day they die is totally naive and unrealistic.

Why does it seem like Republicans have no sympathy for any American who cannot afford to pay for their healthcare? Just another prime example of why the Party of No is so pathetically unpopular today....

The really fatal problem for the Republicans is that they only have two chances to try to prevent Obama's reelection -- attack his budget, and attack his health care plan -- and they just blew the first one.

First of all, their "My Dog Ate My Homework" budget presentation ruined whatever credibility the GOP had on budget issues. The Democrats will own the net seven news cycles, ridiculing the Republicans, and deservedly so.

Second, they rushed their "budget" in front of the cameras in a deliberate attempt to disrupt Obama's press conference, which is hyperpartisan to the point of being just plain cheesy. Like the streaker who ran onstage during the Oscars -- showing off their, um, shortcomings.

Third, all of this happened because John "Tanning Bed" Boehner lost control of his own House GOP caucus. Mike Pence insisted on rushing the "Dog Ate Homework" budget "outline" out there prematurely. Cantor and Ryan, who had been working on a real budget, were furious that Pence had wasted all their work. Boehner sided with Pence -- sticking a finger in Obama's eye was more important to him than putting out a budget with actual, ya know, budget numbers.

So in one move they exposed themselves as incompetent, hyperpartisan, and divided. But they still insist they're better equipped than Obama to lead the country.

Now they have only one more chance to prevent their extinction -- figure out a way to outsmart Obama on the health care issue. They've been trying for months, but they've made no progress. Four GOP Senators are already working with Obama on the plan, as are the insurers, the drugmakers, and businesses.

And that's great. But you understand that "law by heartwarming anecdote" is a pretty ****ty way to make policy decisions, right?

An extra 3.5 years for a disease that they thought might be able to be cured, at a cost of $1m...I don't have the actuarial tables in front of me, but I'm sure someone could figure it out. It doesn't sound particularly egregious to me.

The point that I think you're missing is that it sounds like a great deal to you, just like it would if it cost $2m, just like it would if it cost $5m. When you're benefiting and someone else is paying, everything sounds like a great idea. However, when you're that person who's paying and there are a limited amount of resources, you have to make tough decisions.

To think that your parents are going to be healthy until the day they die is totally naive and unrealistic.

I don't think that. I do think that my parents will be responsible enough to save money for their eventual retirement and health care so that they're not a burden on me or on society as a whole.

You continually confuse a recognition of the inherent limitations of our society with a lack of sympathy. I'm not particularly interested in becoming popular among people like that.
