This is one of the reasons you tell your kids not to talk to strangers. ****ed up in the head sheep ****ers will try to brainwash your kids. Personally I think the school should have called the cops on these wackos, crazy people are a danger to children.

Washington Times - PETA takes anti-circus effort to kids

Look both ways before crossing the street, never accept candy from a stranger ... and when the circus comes to town, stay home.

As the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus rolls through the area, activists from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are urging that last message on elementary school-age children in an aggressive advocacy campaign against purported animal cruelty practiced by the circus. But some child-development professionals fear PETA's message and methods are disturbing to young minds.

In advance of the circus' scheduled opening Wednesday in Baltimore, a PETA volunteer dressed as "Ellie," a child-friendly elephant mascot, and handed out "Animals Belong in the Jungle" activity books to children and parents on the sidewalk outside the Historic Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Elementary School.

One page in the activity book shows a maze with baby elephants and says: "Find a way for [the elephant] to leave the circus and reunite with her family." Another page has a "life in the circus" word puzzle with terms like "whip," "hurt" and "bull hook."

The school was selected for its proximity to the Mariner Arena, the Baltimore venue for the circus, said Kristie Phelps, an assistant director of PETA.

Edie House-Foster, director of information for Baltimore City Public Schools, downplayed Ellie's school visit, saying that because the PETA volunteer was on a public sidewalk, permission from the school board was not necessary. "There was no strong impact, because it was during dismissal time, and the children were on their way to the bus," she said.

Ms. House-Foster said she was not aware of any parents calling the school to complain or express concern about the materials being distributed.

Calls to the school's parent-teacher association by The Washington Times were not returned.

No organization should be promoting anything at a school.

It's a little short of indoctrination.

I hate when groups target kids in a manner like this. Let kids be kids for awhile. They'll have plenty on their plates soon enough.

If PETA is serious about animal cruelty, then put forth truthful documentaries on how animals can/are being exploited and/or mistreated, and market it responsibly.

Personally, when I see underhanded tactics, it makes me question their real motives and distracts me from their original mission statement of ethical treatment of animals.

I will commend them though on the recent chimp attack:

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have called on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to ban private ownership of exotic animals in California, citing the increasing popularity of keeping such animals as pets. The group said there have been more than 90 reported dangerous incidents nationwide involving primates since 1990.

Gruesome chimp attack doesn?t surprise experts - U.S. news- msnbc.com

I kind of worry about unspecific bans.California is the same state that bans domesticated ferrets,so who knows what they will try to label as exotic and dangerous.

Your average circus/carnival is boring anyway...

The best ciruses in the world don't even use animals. I saw Cirque du Soleil in Vancouver, and I'm sold on the idea. I'd rather see more human creativity in that industry, than relying on the exotic factor of animals to prop up your show.

After the whole Sea Kitten thing there is absolutely nothing that this group could do that would surprise me.

Hey, not fair. Schools are supposed to be impartial. I demand equal time so I can promote eating elephant burgers.

Are they trying to turn out little soldiers into a Zebra-Liberation force?

How do you successfully bring up a law-suit against the Circus? "YOU ARE TREATING YOUR ANIMALS MUCH BETTER THAN MOST ZOOS WOULD, HOW DARE THEE!"

We free the Zebra.. dude is just gonna get whacked by a car.

**** PETA. That's really all I can say about that group, there is nothing intelligent and nice that I have to say about them, seriously, I have nothing but contempt and ill will for them.

You gotta admit that peta uses hot stupid naked chicks for their stupid campaigns.

Hey look this one is trying to think.(not really nude since she is wearing a bikini bottom and her nipples are covered)

To you maybe, but I guarantee you that a kid would much prefer a traditional circus.

So is the press, but that doesn't stop either institution from pushing their personal agendas.

(Frankly, I rate circuses right up there in grossness with NCFY's adjective on uncircumsized d*cks).

I actually agree with her. Bullfighting is disgusting. So are the bathrooms at the bullfights in Madrid. Neither are humane.

(sort of kidding about the bathrooms)

Come on, Look at her.Do you think she even knows what bullfighting is? Someone probably told her that horns on your head makes you look smarter and told her to hold a sign and that someone would be by in a minute to take her to a beach.

You assume I don't look like that. ;) No, I do not think all pretty women are stupid. I would never pose like that, though.

How insulting. You don't know her and have no idea the level of her intelligence, yet simply because she is pretty, you think she is so stupid she doesn't even know what bullfighting is? Come on now james.

First of all she is a member of PETA and she is a blond. Two of those things, especially the fist one are not a sign of intelligence .Not only that she is standing out the thinking people are actually paying attention to her message instead of her.

No ****!!! I've related this event before on here, I think but it drives the point home so well.

My son's mom was taking him into McDonald's one day and this hippy chick came out of a crowd of smelly hippies and asked if she could give my son a free toy. It looked like a happy meal box so she just said yes and took him inside. He started crying in the McDonalds and she looked down to see that this was an Unhappy Meal and it had a little rubber chicken covered in fake blood, a picture of Ronald McDonald in a leather apron soaked in blood holding a machete`, and pictures of slaughter houses.

I ended up having to pick her up at the jailhouse but no charges were filed against her for going back out into the parking lot and beating the **** out of three of them before a cop on break broke them up.

Here's a similar picture but this was NOT the box it came in....

Being blonde is a sign that someone's unintelligent? Is that just limited to females? No seriously, I'm too blonde to understand. Please explain to my feable little brain. Use small words.

(I'll wait for Middleground to respond to your statement).

Jall, is that your story? I know you're gay, but that doesn't mean you didn't have a child with a woman at some point. I ask because that's an extremely disgusting thing to do to a kid. I hope whoever's story this is really did teach them a lesson. It's infuriating. I'd have slammed the unhappy box upside their stinky, hippie heads.

Second, one thing that bugs me (though much less than the anger I have for those sick PETA morons), is that people should never allow strangers to give their kids gifts. Never. We pound it into their heads never to accept gifts from strangers, so we should never accept any on their behalf. I've had people offer things to my kid right in front of me, and I put my hand right in front of them and say, "No thank you. He does not accept anything from strangers." They look at me like this ~~!> but I don't give a hoot. It's a lesson that could save my kid's life someday.

Back to the topic .... :3oops:

No organization should be promoting anything at a school.

It's a public sidewalk, First Amendment rules.

If my kid brought one of those home...she'd probably be asking to go to the circus.

I see lots of opportunity to backfire for PETA here.
