The nominations of John Holdren and Jane Lubchenco have now been approved. Holdren will be Obama's science advisor, and Lubchenco will be the head of NOAA.

This is refreshing. These science picks are not bible thumpers, not members of political think tanks, and not members of industry advocacy groups. They are REAL SCIENTISTS. Holdren is a bona fide plasma physicist, and Lubchenco is marine biologist.

These are great picks, and shows that Obama is going to listen to science, and not fairy tales. Too bad we can't say his economic picks are as good, but at least we now have some real science back in the government.

So, as Obama takes America to hell in a handbasket, economically speaking, we will now at least have a scientific explanation for it.

How you come to conclusions like this are beyond me. Holdren is a PLASMA PHYSICIST. However, he's a professor of Environmental Policy. Industry advocacy groups? Are you kidding me? He's the anti-thesis of one. Lubchenco is the same thing. Both have one big thing in common. CLIMATE CHANGE.

Holden- In applying the costlier solutions, the industrialized nations must lead – going first, paying more of the up-front costs, offering assistance to developing countries. This is a matter of historical responsibility, capacity, equity, and international law (the UNFCCC). ... The best basis for such an agreement in the short term is probably reductions in emission intensity (GHG/GDP); in the longer run, the only politically acceptable basis will be equal per-capita emissions rights. Harvard: Global Climate Disruption: What Do We Know? What Should We Do?"

Its no secret that Lubchenco is on the same page. Unlike Holden (who own stock in various CMD cap and trade companies) Lubchenco's policies on conservation is near radical. Take note that she is going to be working closely with the COMMERCE department.

Expect to see more taxes and more growth stunting policy being put forth with little if any real solutions out of these two.

I'll wait and see how they do first. Pay attention to the type of programs they approve of.

I've met some crazy scientists in my lifetime. Mastering plasma physics or marine biology does not mean one has a handle on reality.

Nothing against Holdren or Lubchenco... I'm sure they're both outstanding in their respective fields.
