Concerns Over Popes Rejection of Condoms for Combating AIDS

How could people for one second think the Pope could condone condemns? He can't.

Good then don't go to that country. The pope should stay home and masturbate to god.

So you agree with Marilyn that the Catholic Church is out of touch with the people? Care to tell us when Mormons decided to allow blacks to be priests?

We have no restictions regarding race, color, ect ...

We have members from all walks of life. In fact, the LDS church has members in almost every country around the world (there are some exceptions).

He is spreading the Catholic agenda to... wait for it... CATHOLICS. His words are for Catholics to adhere to. If you don't like the Pope, leave Catholicism. Easy enough.

I'm not a Catholic. I survived a year of education at a Catholic school. The Pope doesn't have to condone condoms but he does not need to speak out against them.

He is make a bad situation worse by speaking out.

And Battlestar Galactica too, no thank you very much.

By the way, you don't make mormonism sound normal, you make it sound creepy. Like, "We're in your company, we're in your school, we're in your city councel, we're everywhere...everywhere!... hahahahahah..."

That was very common in the late 1800s in places like Minnesota.

Being Mormon is quite excellent. If you are curious about it, go to a mormon church and sit through Sacrement.

You'll find it enlightning.

:)

Thanks, but I have to get my hair cut that day. Maybe another time. :)

You dodged my question. What year did God send a revelation to the LDS church telling them it was okay for blacks to become priests?

I'm not a Catholic.
Good, so you shouldn't have a problem when the Pope gives advice to Catholic people.

He is make a bad situation worse by speaking out.
Then let his actions bring harm. If they do, he will be exposed as an archaic dinosaur clinging to Bronze Age nonsense.

But he believes that distributing condoms makes things worse. He cites reports of HIV increasing in places where they are distributed.

And then he cites reports of success where teaching faithfulness and abstinence.

It's just not a given that handing out lots of condoms is the answer. It seems to me that there needs to be some morality taught along with condom distribution.

From Saint Peter’s Square to Harvard Square by Kathryn Jean Lopez on National Review Online

“The pope is correct,” Green told National Review Online Wednesday, “or put it a better way, the best evidence we have supports the pope’s comments. He stresses that “condoms have been proven to not be effective at the ‘level of population.’”

Green is the director of the AIDS Prevention Research Project at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies

That would be the only guaranteed way to avoid a fatal car crash. :doh

Of course it would, but its impraticle never to be able to use a car again, and highly unlikely you will never need to ride one or never will. Which is the point with the condoms. To tell people to refrain from sex is one thing, to expect them to actually do it is another. Its an unrealistic approach, highly likely anybody will refrain from it completely and just down right diabolical to actually expect that from people. Some people are even unaware they have AIDS in africa because of non existing access to health infrastructure, so even in those cases when two people have not been tested, its advisable to wear condoms. You cannot deny there scientific purpose, and they will help to stop HIV, without unrealistic demands.

Abstinence has never worked effectively amongst large infected populations, the high birth rate in Africa also indicates it will be largely ineffective, and asking the 40 odd million infected people to refrain from sex will not work.

Still waiting for your answer, Vader.

God never had to give such a revalation because the LDS church has never discriminated.

We're all about equal opportunity.

How many black catholic priests do you know?

Also ....

The server has been down.... or I would've rebuked you long ago.

Don't try and re-write history Vader.

"How long is that race to endure the dreadful curse that is upon them? That curse will REMAIN UPON THEM, and THEY NEVER CAN HOLD THE PRIESTHOOD or share in it until all the other descendants of Adam have received the promises and enjoyed the blessings of the Priesthood and the keys thereof. Until the last ones of the residue of Adam's children are brought up to that favourable position, THE CHILDREN OF CAIN CANNOT RECEIVE THE FIRST ORDINANCES OF THE PRIESTHOOD

From my experience most people don't leave, they just follow the parts they feel like, and the rest they forget about it, or sweep it under the rug.

The African's that want to live will ignore the Pope. A lot of them probably think he's crazy anyway.

Are you serious, or just playing dumb?

The black priesthood ban fall would come from pressure by the U.S. Congress and from problems determining whether or not a person in Latin America was eligible to hold the priesthood, especially when the temples started to be constructed.
The full fall of the priesthood ban took place over a period of many decades, but in 1979, President Spencer W. Kimball announced that the time had come for blacks to hold the priesthood and an official declaration was placed at the end of the Doctrine and Covenants.
Although there were political pressures and monetary concerns that may have contributed to the announcement, the declaration was given in theological terms. After the ban was lifted, many blacks were ordained into the priesthood.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS)cannot escape their racist past. For nearly 150 years, the Mormon Church had taught that ALL blacks were cursed. Hence, a black Mormon male could not hold the highly regarded LDS Priesthood1 because of his dark skin. And since he could not hold this Priesthood, he could not enter the Mormon Temple. This doctrine in no way, shape, or form can be substantiated in Scripture. Only in the LDS scriptures does this racist doctrine exist.
Mormons and Black Skin

Like other denominations, Mormonism -- organized in 1830 -- once taught that blacks were descendants of Cain, Adam and Eve's son who was banished after murdering his brother Abel, and of Ham, Noah's son who broke a taboo when he looked at the nude body of his drunken father. In what became known as the "curse of Ham," Noah condemned to slavery the descendants of Ham's son Canaan.
Mormon theology added the belief that blacks embodied spirits that had fought on God's side in a celestial battle of Good vs. Evil but had performed "less valiantly."
Powell said that the church, which has about 48,000 Washington area members, rejected its earlier teachings on race two decades ago, when leaders proclaimed that "all worthy male members of the Church may be ordained to the priesthood without regard for race or color."
But as the June 6 anniversary of that proclamation approaches, some white and black Mormons have pressed for an outright admission that past teachings on race were erroneous.

So then why get in a tizzy when the Pope makes a declaration? :doh

I was not aware of this fact. It saddens me. I will ask about it on Sunday.

I suppose no religion is perfect.

To you I would say --- Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Also ... YOU dodged MY question!

How many African American Catholics do you know?

How many African American Catholic Clergyman do you know?

What? Quoting Jesus only works when you are debating a Christian.

None off of the top of my head. My point was that your church orchestrated an official ban on blacks being priests. As far as I know, Catholics have never done this. Feel free to prove me wrong.

No, but if your statement is true then this declaration is meaningless, since only those who want to listen will heed his call.

That's how Catholic's are in the states and probably most of the western world, but you get in the Third World countries, and they are still into some odd practices. I think the pope should have just not said anything about condoms cause this disease affects children as well as adults, and it's almost cruel for him to throw such an antiquated doctrine at backward people. Button up is usually the best way to go when you don't know what you're talking about.
