'Away From the Politics of Fear'

Janet Napolitano, 51, is President Obama's new Homeland Security Secretary. She spoke with SPIEGEL about immigration, the continued threat of terrorism and the changing tone in Washington.

SPIEGEL: Madame Secretary, in your first testimony to the US Congress as Homeland Security Secretary you never mentioned the word "terrorism." Does Islamist terrorism suddenly no longer pose a threat to your country?

Napolitano: Of course it does. I presume there is always a threat from terrorism. In my speech, although I did not use the word "terrorism," I referred to "man-caused" disasters. That is perhaps only a nuance, but it demonstrates that we want to move away from the politics of fear toward a policy of being prepared for all risks that can occur.

That is our head of Homeland SECURITY...afraid to call a Terrorist a Terrorist because that may cause fear.

"man-caused disasters"

Are you kidding me?

My lack of confidence in the Obama administration in regards to the WAR has now reached the point of no return. They can't even call the ENEMY the ENEMY!

We are fighting Radical Islamic Terrorists in an war in which they will DIE to win...and these jokes cannot even handle calling them what they are.

Pure PC driven idiocy
She should be fired. No matter what her credential may be she has no business in her current position.
Where do they find these jokes?

When George Bush got serious and took on Terrorist with a vengeance, he was berated, attacked and hated by the liberals. Now that their in charge, their leadership shows how small their grasp of the threat and problem is.

Any terrorist attack on US Soil till 2012 when we can correct this error, is laid at the feet of Obama and those he fooled into voting for him.

Man-made disasters indeed.

Re: "'Away From the Politics of Fear"(aka PC Stupidity)

....

I am for the lessening the usage of "terrorist" and "terrorism" as you can brand any nation-state, any military, any militancy, as a terrorist, simply because the term disregards intent, while emphasizing outcome.

But "man-made" disasters.. that is just weak.

Re: "'Away From the Politics of Fear"(aka PC Stupidity)

The term terrorist has been diluted to the point of nothingness because of broad overusage. Man-made disaster is pretty pathetic PC doublespeak, but hardly any different than the usual crap we get out of our political leaders. Personally, I wish we would describe our enemies based on who they actually are.

Re: "'Away From the Politics of Fear"(aka PC Stupidity)

I agree.
Let the Taliban be the Taliban.

Re: "'Away From the Politics of Fear"(aka PC Stupidity)

That is appeasing the enemy.

One, under the Breaking News rules, the title of the thread must match the title of the article. I don't see "(aka PC Stupidity)" in the title of the thread.

4. The title of every *BN* thread must be identical to the title of the cited news story headline.

I hope you're assessed points.

Two, I love seeing people like you so angry. Now you know how I felt for the 8 years we had a joke for a president.

Re: "'Away From the Politics of Fear"(aka PC Stupidity)

First you ignore the subject, second you use a meaningless carrier, third you try to directly incite your target.

How long have you been a Troll on this forum?

Re: "'Away From the Politics of Fear"(aka PC Stupidity)

Idiotic to the n'th degree. Yes, Bush at times over used Terrorist. That makes this right how? What the **** are we in, 3rd grade "Nah nah nah, you did something bad that made me mad so I'm gonna do it to you. Ptttttttttpht!". For the love of christ.

Seriously, I work in Homeland Security. I know, Terrorism is still one of the prime things its focusing on and considering a threat. To not even mention it and use such idiotic ****ing language as "Man-Made Disasters" is so absolutely ignorant I can't even find the right words to explain my annoyance at it. That gives me the picture of some mad comic book scientist with a weather machine causing a hurricane more than a terrorist attack.

And don't even get me started with that non-sequiter, moronic, pattently dishonest bull**** statement of moving away from the Politics of Fear. That whole trumped up charge is the most outrageous ****ing thing to come out of a liberals mouths in the recent years because BOTH SIDES ****ING DO IT AND ARE STILL DOING IT.

This woman pisses me the **** off, partially because I'm going to be directly affected by her policies.

Re: "'Away From the Politics of Fear"(aka PC Stupidity)

"Man-caused disasters" is an insult to the memories of those who died on 11 September 2001, including family and friends of mine.

What a retarded idiot that is sending us back to the mindset that led to 911.

Re: "'Away From the Politics of Fear"(aka PC Stupidity)

Man-Caused disasters sounds like an accident.

This is no surprise.
How can it be a surprise?
This IS their nature.
Has been for decades.

Add to that, Democrats/Socialists have a penchant for misleading with their terms.
They also have a penchant for appeasing the enemy.

If THEY don't want to call terrorists terrorists and evil, evil...
... I hope they don't mind when we call them terrorist sympathizers.
Weakings.
Girly men.
******s.
Unfit for prime time.

She is the chief of The Dept. of Homeland Insecurity.

... man-caused disasters...
where do they come up with this bull****?

Exactly.

I'm alll for using the words "Terrorism" and "Terrorist" when they apply, like when a ****ing terrorist attacks civilians with a bomb strapped to his back. That's terrorism in a friggin' nutshell. Use the term because it describes the action.

What I'm against, which definitely happened ad nauseum over the last 7 1/2 years, is the application of the term to things that are NOT terrorism diluting the term and therefore dishonoring those who actually died from terrorist actions.

Man-made disasters is friggin' retarded. An action taken that could be labeled either correctly or incorrectly as "terrorism" will either be one of two things: A friggin' terrorist attack or an enemy attack.

Use the terms correctly, and label the terrorists as terrorists and the enemies as enemies and there will be no problems.

Re: "'Away From the Politics of Fear"(aka PC Stupidity)

This is further proof of the extremist nature of the U.S. government, regardless of which party is in power. "Terrorism" was abused by the Bush Administration and now the backlash is going to the opposite side of the coin.

I wish moderate government existed in the U.S.
