    8 Dems oppose quick debate on global warming bill

    Seems like some on the Left are fearful of the Cap 'n Rape program.

    WASHINGTON -- Eight Senate Democrats are opposing speedy action on President Barack Obama's bill to combat global warming, complicating prospects for the legislation and creating problems for their party's leaders.

    The eight Democrats disapprove of using the annual budget debate to pass Obama's "cap and trade" bill to fight greenhouse gas emissions

    It looks like the democrats are suffering from their own brand of neo-conservativism, neo-liberalism!

    But seriously though, just like the republican party was hijacked by neo-cons(or as I say, Non-Cons) such as Specter, Snowe, and McCain, the democrat party now has to face up that, liberal though their electorate may be, still has to have the approval of their own "moderate" faction of their party, lest they break away.

    Then again, what does "cap and trade" actually do?

    Does it limit CO2 emissions?

    Nope.

    It raises taxes and thus raises consumer prices.

    That's all it does.

    To make it plain...what's being "traded"? Someone's allowance of "carbon credits", so that those with and "excess" can sell them to those who are short...ensuring that all the carbon is burned, up.

    In other words, Obama's playing a game of three card monte, and he's setting up the government to collect a lot of money that will come from....the little guy that has to pay sooo much more to keep his pipes from freezing in the winter time.

    Stupid idea will really help grow the economy....of government workers assigned to count the raked in ill-gotten gains of that greedy son of an unmmarried woman...

    The Democrats will love it. They'll be told to, soon enough.

    By the way....can anyone spot the line in the Constitution that allows the federal government to count carbon beans?

    What about the line that allows the feds to control the use of those beans, after they've been counted?

    What would you prefer? Arrest utilities executives for burning coal?

    AFAICT, it creates an incentive for a utility conserve or generate more "green" energy. It's going to be expensive to switch to sustainable technology, but unfortunately it seems to be our best option at the moment.

    Why? They're preventing the next ice age. Shouldn't they be given medals?

    Wouldn't having some neoliberals be a good thing since they general believe in the following (the ones in bold are the ones that seem ok to me):

    Fiscal policy discipline;
    * Redirection of public spending from subsidies ("especially indiscriminate subsidies") toward broad-based provision of key pro-growth, pro-poor services like primary education, primary health care and infrastructure investment;
    * Tax reform broadening the tax base and adopting moderate marginal tax rates;
    * Interest rates that are market determined and positive (but moderate) in real terms;
    * Competitive exchange rates;
    * Trade liberalization liberalization of imports, with particular emphasis on elimination of quantitative restrictions (licensing, etc.); any trade protection to be provided by law and relatively uniform tariffs;
    * Liberalization of inward foreign direct investment;
    * Privatization of state enterprises;
    * Deregulation abolition of regulations that impede market entry or restrict competition, except for those justified on safety, environmental and consumer protection grounds, and prudent oversight of financial institutions; and,
    * Legal security for property rights.

    Our best option at the moment is nuclear power. It instantlycreates thousands of private sector jobs and provides us with a proven energy source.

    Depends on which side of the isle you are on

    As for me, as for this country, it's a real good thing.
