Kansas late-term abortion provider faces trial

Tiller is charged with 19 misdemeanors alleging he failed to obtain the required second opinion from an independent physician that a late-term abortion is necessary. If convicted, the Wichita physician could face a year in the county jail or a fine of $2,500 for each charge.

Sedgwick County District Judge Clark Owens has set aside three days, beginning Monday, for jury selection. Opening arguments and trial testimony are set to begin March 23.

Defense attorney Dan Monnat said he could not comment on specific trial evidence. "But we can say this: Dr. Tiller is innocent," Monnat added. "We expect the prosecution's evidence and any defense evidence to make that very, very clear."

Prosecutors contend Tiller had a financial relationship with the doctor he relied upon for his second opinion that an abortion is necessary, in violation of Kansas law. They expect to present their case in one day, and could call that physician, Dr. Ann Kristin Neuhaus of Nortonville, who has been granted immunity from prosecution.

"We are treating this case just like any other criminal case," said Ashley Anstaett, spokeswoman for Attorney General Steve Six, a Democrat who supports abortion rights.

They need to throw the book at this barbarian. How can anyone rally behind this savage is beyond understanding.

Why did the doctor perform the late-term in the first place? Didn't the Supreme Court rule that it was Unconstitutional?

OK, before you people burn the witch, let's read what the story ACTUALLY says:

Tiller is charged with 19 misdemeanors alleging he failed to obtain the required second opinion from an independent physician that a late-term abortion is necessary. If convicted, the Wichita physician could face a year in the county jail or a fine of $2,500 for each charge.

They expect to present their case in one day, and could call that physician, Dr. Ann Kristin Neuhaus of Nortonville, who has been granted immunity from prosecution.
He isn't on trial for providing late-term abortions, which are LEGAL in Kansas. He isn't even on trial for providing UNNECESSARY late-term abortions. He isn't even on trial for not getting confirmation from another doctor that it was necessary. He is on trial for having a financial relationship with the doctor who he relied upon for this secondary opinion. A conflict of interest? Perhaps, as it doesn't say what exactly the financial relationship was. He may need to have his medical license revoked depending on what exactly happened, but why does this make you foam at the mouth?

Really. So he's a "barbarian" and a "savage" for having a medical conflict of interest? Or is it maybe that you just don't like abortions? Since the case has not gone to trial yet, you have absolutely no idea if there actually WAS a conflict of interest or not...let alone any idea if he performed unnecessary late-term abortions.

The fact that you are already condemning him as a "barbarian" is disgusting. Even if he's found guilty, the charges are such that he wouldn't be a "barbarian," he'd just be an irresponsible doctor.
    Are you coming to bed?

Do you know the history of this guy? Please do some research and try again.

And yes. I think this man is a savage for ripping viable babies out of a woman because she has the blues.

Wait, so this "doctor" is ripping live babies for all intensive reality out of women while allegedly paying another doctor to say it is medically needed because the woman has "the blues" is what is disgusting to you here?

Really, do you want to stop and think about that one and rephrase? I will wait.

YOU are the one who created the thread. If you have other information that you want people to consider when discussing the thread, then post it your goddamn self. I'm just going by what the article which YOU POSTED says.

Right. Because everyone waits until the eighth month of pregnancy to have an abortion, just for fun. Nope, those late-term abortions are almost never for health reasons.

The article said no such thing. It said that they had a "financial relationship." That could mean that this guy sold his car to the other doctor two years ago. That's probably a conflict of interest, but it hardly makes him a "barbarian."
