Maybe not, but it does not look kosher that they pushed for these bailouts and wrote in the bonus protection they are now bitching about. It makes you wonder.

When they agreed to take the billions of taxpayer dollars, they were doing so because failing to meet their obligations would have been a catastrophe on the world stage. However, they also need to confront the reality that without the bailout, all of these managers would be on the street as the company they were in charge of failed. Miserably.

Now, we have had years of neo-cons running govt and throwing money down the toilet hole faster than we can print more of it. Whether it's tens of thousands of guns disappearing in Iraq or the act of invading that nation itself, more money has been squandered in the last 8 years then any other similar period in the history of the planet.

So, please, I know this is going to be hard. But people, especially those running corporation which receive billions of taxpayer dollars, should be held accountable for every penny spent. Every single penny of taxpayer money should be spent on what they were not allocated for. As they were not given to allow these bonus's, they should be scrutinized. It's what a respectable government would do.

Which, I know, is hard for a neo-con to understand.
Four paragraphs which illustrate that you have no idea what you are talking about.

I am going to try to educate you so that you can be more informed: When PRIVATE companies "throw money down toilets", it is money they EARNED and they have to answer to their shareholders.

When the Government "throws money down the toilet", it is money they TOOK from US and PRIVATE companies.

I have far LESS issue when PRIVATE companies and individuals "throw their money in the toilet" than I do when it happens to be the Government.

This Government is throwing TRILLIONS down the toilet using a campaign of fear mongering yet people like you desperately defend it as if it is some form of newly discovered panacea for economic ills.

Carry on; I expect another diatribe about how Government can spend our hard earned wealth better than the private sector which illustrates a naiveté' bordering on outright economic ignorance.

The REAL news here is that the Government and Obama Administration knew of these bonuses months ago; it is only an outrage for them now that the news is out and the public has been whipped into anger by the media.

The lunatics (like Barney the clown) are running the asylum and you can expect much more of this over the next four years. There will also be a lot of finger pointing and blame when the 3.5 million new jobs never materialize and the trillions being spent and printed do not turn the economy around.

But hey, these are inexperienced people doing on the job training. This is what you get when you put a junior Senator in charge of the country that operates as if he is still in campaign mode and a community organizer.

Obama seeks greater rein on financial institutions
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama said Wednesday no one in his administration created the mess at insurance giant AIG, including the much-maligned executive bonuses, but that "the buck stops with me" to fix it.

Standing on the White House lawn as he prepared to go to California, Obama vigorously defended his embattled Treasury secretary, Timothy Geithner. Some have speculated that Geithner's job could be in danger over his handling of the millions of dollars in bonuses that American International Group Inc., is giving its executives — even in the midst of a massive federal bailout.
Got power? Has anyone forgot about the billions to foreign banks yet?

"I don't want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry. I'm angry," the president said. "What I want us to do, though, is channel our anger in a constructive way.

Have you been watching some of the grilling he's getting? (check it out here, it's on break right now but should begin again in about an 45 minutes).

Some of these congressmen, from both sides, are being total assholes to this guy.

Quite frankly, I was withholding judgment about the whole thing until I saw Liddy talk. I am now far more understanding of the bonuses being paid.

But I must say, this isn't squarely on Obama's shoulders. This has been an issue since October and November, according to Liddy.

The AIG thing is as much Bush's baby as it is Obama's. About 150 billion of the TARP money AIG received came last year.

My thoughts are that both parties should be held to the fire, not just the Dems.

Some people, like Jeb Hensarling, are free from that fire, IMO. From what I've watched so far of this witch-hunt, he made the most salient point by saying that Liddy should have offered a "double or nothing" bonus plan to the people who received these bonuses based on Liddy's "bullish outlook on AIG's future.

One thing I cannot stress enough, though, is that Liddy has ALL of my respect in this situation and the fact that he's being treated like a piece of **** by these assholes is quite irritating to me.

Most mention that Liddy is "one of the good guys" but one asshole (I didn't catch his name) basically admitted he was trying to offend Liddy by saying that he himself was involved in monkey-business trying to protect his pay (his one ****ing dollar a year salary) by creating an immunity to the CDO's for bonuses.

That guy was a total and complete prick, and if anyone was watching and caught his name, I'd appreciate it so I can write a letter tearing him a new asshole.

Modern day politician - One who increases the base of blame in a way that opposing resource will be too divided to see through it.

    Dodd facing fresh political firestorm

Dodd just admitted on CNN that he inserted a loophole in the stimulus legislation that allowed million-dollar bonuses to insurance giant AIG to go forward – after previously denying any involvement in writing the controversial provision. .

Dodd had previously said that he played no role in writing the controversial language, and was not a part of the conference committee that inserted the language in the bill. As late as today, Dodd’s spokeswoman denied the senator’s involvement.

Should anyone be surprised by this? I know I am not. As a matter of fact, I am surprised that anyone would be surprised.

I can only watch the first few minutes and then I have to turn it off lest their rabid stupidity can somehow infect me.

I saw the opening statements and am hardly surprised at this desperate attempt to once again divert attention away from the Democrats own rabid stupidity; I will include Iowa Republican Senator Charles Grassley on this one because his statements are beyond moronic:

"But I would suggest the first thing that would make me feel a little bit better toward them if they'd follow the Japanese example and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say, I'm sorry, and then either do one of two things: resign or go commit suicide."

"And in the case of the Japanese, they usually commit suicide before they make any apology."

    What a total moron.
