Conservative MP David Davies has called on abusive protests against serving military personnel to be outlawed.

The Monmouth MP has tabled an amendment to a bill governing religious hatred that would extend protection to the Armed Forces.

It would make it an offence to incite hatred against serving soldiers.

He was responding to a small group of anti-war protesters who this week demonstrated in Luton at the homecoming parade of the Royal Anglian Regiment.

They held placards saying "Anglian soldiers go to hell" and "Butchers of Basra".

I dont agree with the protests, i think there disgusting, but does anybody remember freedom of demonstration?

I hate the Phelps family as much as anyone, but I love the freedom more.

What qualifies as an "abusive" protest? If we're talking about violence, then it is already outlawed as "battery"

I can't help but think these people are getting what they deserve. The push their government to push anti-free speech laws by making it illegal to speak out against their religion or say anything that might offend them with what we they call hate-speech laws. So now these "hate-speech" laws might be used against these anti-military scum.Kind if ironic.

Talking **** about someone shouldn't be illegal. If you do not like what someone says then ignore them.Pushing these hate speech laws is idiotic and immature. Whaa! we don't like what he said about our group lets make it illegal, while still claiming to be for free speech. ****ing ******s.

Freedom goes above what they are protesting.

They can protest at graves and i would support their right to do so, this is a slippery slope that i do not want the Govt. to embark on
