WASHINGTON (AP) - Confronting misgivings, even in his own party, President Barack Obama mounted a stout defense of his blueprint to overhaul the economy Thursday, declaring the national crisis is "not as bad as we think" and his plans will speed recovery.
Challenged to provide encouragement as the nation's "confidence builder in chief," Obama said Americans shouldn't be whipsawed by bursts of either bad or good news and he was "highly optimistic" about the long term.
Obama: Economic crisis 'not as bad as we think'

Wait... I thought this was the gravest threat ever... three days of good news in the stock Market and it's all smiles?

I dunno bout ya'll, but this is just... appalling.

Sounds to me like he's trying to sugarcoat the state of the economy. I can't imagine why. The economy is an absolute disaster right now.

Mr. V. You have just encroached on a very, very, frustrating line of mine. "y'all" is the conjugation of "you" and "all", so it is "y'all" not "ya'll".

... oh, and Obama said what. Is that so. Hm, well, the market is built off of a large portion of confidence. I don't see anything particularly bad in this statement.

I prefer "ya'll" it is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. As for Obama's comments... he's been preaching how bad everything is as an excuse for why we must do what he wants, he's gotten much of it now "it's not so bad"??

Are people really this easy to manipulate? The public is really this gullible?

"Ya'll" is still wrong. But you do make a good point. Aesthetics is an important thing in America.

Yes, actually, people are really that easy to manipulate. You undoubtly believe that too, as you disenfranchise AGW-- which is against a majority view point.

Perhaps, but a considerable amount of that is purely due to low consumer confidence. We all think the economy is really bad, so we all cut spending. That causes some of us to lose our jobs, increasing the perception it's really bad. So we all double our frugality. That costs even more of us our jobs. Wash, rise, repeat. That is a pretty horrific cycle that takes an otherwise somewhat bad situation into a disaster. The more we tighten our belts, the more we kill each other. Obama does have the correct idea that by fixing our perceptions, we can stop the cycle that is making the economy worse.

The current problem essentially shows that modern capitalist free economies are based extremely heavily upon consumer confidence. That's somewhat of a shaky foundation to build an economy on.

It's true that consumer confidence is very important. I just question the president's ability to alter it with a speech. I think the market generally reacts more to governmental policies and the state of individual companies rather than the president's perception of the economy.

That's probably true, but having a president who's all gloom and doom can't help.

Why's he say that?

Obvious.

He said the government's economic policy can't be boinging down and down like the stock market, so now he's out there pretending the market is just wunnerful so's he can con any of the idiots still in the market to stay put, so they can be fleeced for that much more.

If he told the truth and said the only thing holding up the stock market right now are the empty aspirations of the gullible and the greedy expectations of the predatory, and a lot of hot air, then that would puncture the bubble and Obama's presidency would look like a rocket balloon screaming all over the living room looking for the worst possible place to land....and before his 100 day "honeymoon" is up, even.

How many y'all (spelled it right) still got funds in stocks?

Silly people, it's ain't gonna go up until it's finished goin' down.

"A smidgen of good news and suddenly everything is doing great. A little bit of bad news and ooohh , we're down on the dumps," Obama said. "And I am obviously an object of this constantly varying assessment. I am the object in chief of this varying assessment."

Now there is a wonderful example of the arrogance of Obama.

He's the one that played up the DOOOOOM..now he's trying to play it as if its other people who where doing so.
To make it worse claiming they are beating up on him!

He pulled this same crap throughout the campaign.....always making some of the most lamest transparent BS excuses for his own actions while blaming others for them.

Obama cares only about Obama.
"I never noticed"

He's President of the USA by definition...and that is all.

I'm a 4th generation Texan son, and if'n I feel it's right to place it as ya'll instead of y'all, that's just how it's gonna be see.

I understand that most folk put it the so called right way, but I think that y'all just looks wrong. It's ugly, hasty if you will. Ya'll fits the word, more laid back, and comfortable.

Obama's articulate speaking ability betrays his stupidity... :(

It is not a matter of what looks right, or what sounds right, as it is a matter of English grammar.

Yours is on par with these newly conjugated words of mine.

ai'nt i'ts wo'nt do'nt ca'nt etc.
