Alaska Gov. Palin's Daughter, Fiance Break Up - Presidential Politics | Political News - FOXNews.com
WASILLA, Alaska -- Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin, the teenage daughter of Gov. Sarah Palin, have broken off their engagement, he said Wednesday, about 2 1/2 months after the couple had a baby.

Johnston, 19, told The Associated Press that he and 18-year-old Bristol Palin mutually decided "a while ago" to end their relationship. He declined to elaborate as he stood outside his family's home in Wasilla, about 40 miles north of Anchorage.

He also said some details of the breakup, rumors of which had been swirling on the Internet, were inaccurate.

That's sad, but better than to be trapped in a bad marriage so young. They were probably under a lot of pressure to make it work because it wouldn't look good for them to break up after having a baby and being so young.

Yes, I saw the "news" yesterday. Why this topic continues to fascinate people is beyond me, though I suppose it has something to do with the "tabloid appeal" of modern "news" media. I don't necessarily agree with your assessment of young marriage and childbearing being negative, however. Indeed, there is an array of empirical evidence which indicates otherwise.

So she's available then?

At least all the young guys out there know she puts out. But then she also has the stigma of having a **** trophy because of it.

Young marriage and child bearing aren't bad but I don't think that's what AW was saying. I think she was saying being trapped in a young marriage with someone you're not wishing to be with is bad, which seems to be the case here.

Its too bad it couldn't have worked out for them as I'm sure it would've worked better for all those involved. I hope our typical tabloid media will show a bit of respect to two young people that really don't need to be and shouldn't be dragged into all this.

Thankfully she seems to have a good family unit that will be there to help support her and the child.

Just for the record, I don't find young childbearing to be negative. I know many great parents who had children as teenagers. I am negative when the kids do get pregnant and are pressured to get married young by their parents or other influential people in their lives.

Otherwise, if it's their decision and they still plan to do something with their lives and support each other while they continue to go to school, then I wish them well. These two broke up for whatever reasons, better for them to do it now then try for years and years to 'work it out' and just end up miserable and unhappy and have a child in that enviroment.

Well, that's right, of course. Unfortunately, I would note that any degree of coercion that did exist in their arrangement was likely related to her status as a minor and essential subordination under her mother, which she's now liberated from as a legal adult.

Sometimes I don't get what is breaking news and what should be in political scandals or "music and entertainment"....

WHO CARES?

From Star Magazine:
Now's Levi's sister, Mercede is telling all exclusively to Star and the picture she paints of life in Wasilla, Alaska is not a pretty one. Bristol, 18, has virtually cut Levi out of the life of their two-month-old son Tripp.

"Levi tries to visit Tripp every single day, but Bristol makes it nearly impossible. She tells him he can't take the baby to our house because she doesn't want him around 'white trash'!" Bristol won't even allow him to watch the baby for a few hours -- unless he's babysitting!

Even though the quote probably isn't true considering the source, it's still pretty amusing. As for why this is news, I wouldn't place the blame on the person who posted it here, but rather the fact that it even made the news at all. People love scandalous sensationalized crap like this. It's sad, but true.

I thought "Tripp" was the name of Sarah's baby? Did Bristol name her son after her baby brother or was this a typo by the AP/media?

She was probably being pressured into the marriage by her parents. But in the end, this is her decision to make in life and I don't give a **** about it. It's like the "octomom" thing. People are going off the deep end with that one too. Who gives a flying ****?

This is so far different from the Octomom bitch in regards to the situations at hand.

Isn't octomom on public assistance?

Yes, I'd say octobitch likely has about 1/8th the common sense, 1/8th the intelligent, more like 1/16th the looks, and 1/8th the responsability of Bristol

The situations are different, but both are none of our business. I don't want to hear about either sluts.

Actually, I disagree completely with you about the Octomom not being our business.

The women is on multiple forms of assistance, she has 3 kids already pulling SS, and then went and spent thousands of dollars to get impregnated with more kids, furthering her dependency on public finances.

No, she most certainly is the publics business.

Bristol Palin for the most part however, isn't.

Well in the case of octo-mom there is the welfare as others have stated but more impotantly -in my opinion- there is the matter of doctors behaving in an unethical manner without accountability.

Frankly, I'm saddened by this news. I dunno. How much will the father be involved in this kid's life? I am sure Bristol's son will get lots of love and attention from the Palin family, but I can't help but think that if the papa isn't around, that it will have some type of negative impact on their son.

WHO CARES?

The left cares deeply. Because by attacking Palin and her family, they hope to rally her GOP fans around her and keep her in the spotlight.

Palin has a number of admirable qualities. But she is not presidential material. Never will be. The Democrats will benefit if she runs for national office in the future. So they care very much about all of this.

Hopefully they'll still work together to raise their child.

I really hope so. I just have a hard time thinking that someone as young as the father will make a genuine effort, but maybe his parents will force him to. *crosses fingers*
