Any book on modern Chinese history will furnish you with the common details of how the U.S. invested in the KMT in order to assure that China became a democratic power. They did so with money and technology. It was also during this period that China's capital was moved to Nanjing, where the Japanese later invaded. (Also known as the Rape of Nanjing).
Those evil Americans! Seeking to help the Chinese people become a democratic republic where human rights are respected. How awful can they be?

    No. The communists killed millions.

    That's what communists do.

Name a book and I will read it.

I know there was a red scare, but if anything the Chinese have much bigger vandettas against other countries than America for this to have any steam.

That's why the Chinese had to falsely claim the vessel was in a special economic zone, just like they had to falsely claim our EP-3 was in Chinese airspace when it clearly was not before they attacked it.
Actually, by all accounts, it WAS in the EEZ. However, that only gives ECONOMIC rights, NOT Sovereign rights. There is still the right to international passage and use on the water and in the air.

Furthermore, the U.S. was part of the imperial ransacking of China pre-WWI, along with the unequal treaty system (see: Treaty of Wangxia).
The Treaty of Whampoa (France) gave the French the same equal treatment the British got at Nanjing IN ADDITION to the right to protect Catholics in China (which was later violated by China). Wanghia (Wangxia) did the same for the US. By the way, one of the provisions of that treaty was to lift a PROHIBITION on foreigners learning Chinese.

Furthermore, it is an exaggeration to say that the U.S. was trying to save China. It was simply trying to end the Pacfic conquest of Japan that threatened its shores. Japan's forces being weakened and therefore pulling out of China as a result was just a benficial byproduct of Japan's multi-front war.
The U.S. actually placed sanctions on Japan after Japan started its war against China years before the US entered the war. Even as early as the WWI era, the U.S. lent diplomatic support vis a vis Japan. As for trying to save China after WWII - it was, of course, more about preventing the COmmunists taking over than actually "saving China."

It was in international waters. The Chinese have nothing to complain about - especially as they perform recon in the EEZs of other countries. Of course, your knee jerk position is to take the anti-US line even when there is absolutely NO justification for it.

Vietnam's productivity is a drop in the ocean compared to China. I was being somewhat facetitious though, there would be a host of countries cuing to be exploited by America, no fear of that

NO!! This is not a joke. It really happened.
Chinese are turned on in strange ways.

Re: Chinese Navy surround and harrass US Navy Ship Impeccable

I read an article yesterday where China is DEMANDING that the US stop its activities in the South China Sea. link

Hopefully President Obama has the sense to stick up for a position that the US has stood for for more than two centuries - and that is the right to use and navigate in international waters for ALL states.

Now, destroyers will accompany surveillance ships for now.

WASHINGTON (AFP) The United States has decided to provide heavily armed destroyers to escort US surveillance ships operating in the South China Sea after a tense naval standoff this week, a US official said on Thursday.
Good. Definately don't want to let the Chinese push the US around in international waters.
