Iran test-fires new missile - media

Clearly, you know nothing about military hardware.

It's a delivery vehicle. This is something Iran doesn't need access to.

Sorry but can you show me what international crime they are committing OR what international treaty they are violating by launching such a missile?

Or do you think the U.S. owns the world and gets to decide these things by itself?

It proves Iran has a viable delivery system for nuclear ordinance.

No its not. Its an anti-shipping missile fired from an airplane. The article gave no specs on the missile, but anti-shipping air to surface missiles are useless for delivering nuclear weapons. They have to skim the sea, they fly at slow speeds, have a very short range and a small payload. You would be better off putting a bomb on the aircraft itself than trying to use this missile.

In related news, Iran's Propaganda News Ministry just released a photo of that test:

I don't like the idea of Iran's terrorist government having weapons of any kind.

Iran is run by terrorists.

You have yet to show what international treaty or law they are violating.

Are you saying that the U.S. is the ruler of the world and can dictate what countries can do? That sounds like Fascism to me.

I never said anything of the sort.

I just said I do not like Iran's terrorist government having anything more dangerous than a sling shot.

Ok sorry on my part, I thought you were saying they were violating some sort of legal agreement.

I have no problem with what you are saying they shouldn't out of opinion, I happen to agree with it.

I thought you were saying they were violating law for it.

I agree they shouldn't be doing it.

Thats your opinion, fine. However, you made a false claim as to the capabilities of this weapon, and I called you on it. You then claimed another poster had no knowledge of military hardware, which is rather hypocritical.

An Amerian-made Tomahawk missle is essentially the same --- a ship lauched missile. The Tomahawk can be configured to carry a nuclear payload.

As I am sure this missle can be as well.

This is completely different from a tomahawk. The tomahawk is a ship-launched cruise missile with a range of 2500 km used against stationary land targets. This is air launched anti-shipping missile with a range of 110km. It has a completely different launch platform and is much smaller. It is not suitable as a delivery mechanism for nuclear weapons.

I see, so they are stupid for developing this, which they should have known themselves.

Not really. They probably just make some tweaks to a missile they had and used this event as PR stunt. Iran's government over the past couple years has become nothing more then an attention whore.

In terms of geopolitical ramifications, it changes nothing and thus should warrant a similar reaction.

Which they've had for at least 20 years. Iran has had access to the Sunburn missile for a very long time. Furthermore, you don't need a missile for delivery. You need a U-haul.

That's not enturely true. We have missiles that do this. So do/did the Russians.

I hope they don't stupidly do what Saddam Hussein did, and cleverly fake having WMDs when he hadn't done diddly in over ten years. The moron might still be alive and in power if he hadn't faked it to the very end.

You are correct. I should have been more specific. Anti-shipping missiles are not suited for delivering missile attacks on land targets, meaning they are not dangerous to civilians (on a large scale). If Iran is stupid enough to waste its nuclear weapons shooting at ships, we should be encouraging them to do so.

Still... Iran doesn't need missiles ....

Iran needs WEED .... LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of WEED!!!!!
