Ted Kennedy to receive knighthood from Queen Elizabeth

Wow a knighthood for having a certain last name.

Now they've made knighthood worthless, just like the Nobel Prize.

Awwe! Just because conservatives can't get neither, doesn't mean it's worthless.

I hate when images disappear
Mmmmm... fits the description of the valiant knights from children's fairy tales.

Proof that conservatives have never been knighted?

Yeah!
It's like people don't read what comes prior to their making a reply.

Interesting. I consider myself pretty familiar with the text of the Constitution, but that passage never even occurred to me when I heard about this story. It looks like you are correct. I'm sure Congress will agree to it though.

Here is the relevant text, for anyone interested:

1. Not granted by the UNited States.
2. It is only ceremonial. No nobility is being given.

Excuse me, before you rant at my monarch you should probably remember:

The Queen does not make the choices, the PM does.

It is Brown who is to blame not her.

You are Canadian and you have some connection with the Royal family but it is looser one and it your choice is you want to support it. In Britain we are very attached to such ancient institutions and we don't take kindly to such attacks. The Queen is certainly a hell of a lot better than President Blair. We certainly care what the monarch thinks, she is the simple of our nation.

I see her differently than you. I understand that in Britain there is still a level of indoctrination which makes you feel compelled to sympathize with the Queen, but I see her as nothing more than a symbol of a regime that raped and pillaged the world for hundreds of years. I am ashamed that her face still appears on Canadian money, and that Canada is still partially a Constitutional Monarchy that has to acknowledge her existence.

The only redeeming quality of the royal family now is that they contribute to humanitarian causes, but this is because they have no government power anymore to do anything else, and thank goodness for that. It doesn't matter to me if Brown calls the shots or not, the Queen's face is still being used to stamp the decision.

At least there are some benefits to still being part of the Commonwealth, like lax visa rules for travelling to the UK or Australia. :)

Read Article I, sec. 9 of the Constitution. Unless Congress agrees to it in a vote, then Kennedy's acceptance of Knighthood is unconstitutional.

 damn you! I was waiting for the right time to drop this hammer!

I disagree with British people who turn down the honor. It's disrespectful to their ancestors.
