    Ban Barbie?

I guess ugly dolls would be better for girls' intellectual and emotional development!?!?

Ditch the doll? Lawmaker targets Barbie - TODAY Fashion & Beauty- msnbc.com

"Barbie could get an unwelcome present for her 50th birthday: outlawed in West Virginia.

A state lawmaker proposed a bill Tuesday to ban sales of the iconic Mattel doll and others like her.

The Barbie Ban Bill, proposed by Democratic Delegate Jeff Eldridge (D) Lincoln County, says such toys influence girls to place too much importance on physical beauty, at the expense of their intellectual and emotional development"

I do agree that Barbie is one of many factors that can contribute to problems in Western countries of image that result in problems like Anorexia Nervosa. I do not think the solution is to ban the doll, parents should be given the information and decide if they want to have their child play with the doll.

I think their time would be wasted much better by regulating door knobs.

    From your link:

The delegate concedes that the chances of getting the bill passed are slim, but adds that he stands behind it.

"I knew a lot of people were going to joke about it and poke fun at me," Eldridge said. "I couldn't get anybody to sign on the bill with me but I said I'm still going to introduce it."
Sounds like this is a guy who is in desperate need of media attention. He knew it was a joke and proposed it anyway.

Something's going on here. I don't know what.

As is typical with these type stories... the reporter doesn't do any digging. Nothing but fluff to make headlines... and generate thousands of threads on message boards across the country.

    Re: Ban Barbie?

You ever noticed that despite a massive obesity epidemic Anorexia is seen as the big problem with people.

Are they also constantly depressed that they arent 12 inches tall ?

Also why is it often the same people who claim things like barbie are responsible for influencing children in negative ways are often the same who will claim things like rap music dont.

Easy fix for that. Mattel can come out with Barbie USMC, who not only shaves every day, but can also rip off your head and piss down your neck.

"I just hate the image that we give to our kids that if you're beautiful, you're beautiful and you don't have to be smart," Eldridge told West Virginia news station WOWK.

What a flippin moron. Barbie has been an astronaut, a doctor, a lawyer, a teacher, and basically everything you could think of. If I am not mistaken it does take some sort of smarts to get a career like that.
I call my own shots, largely based on an accumulation of data, and everyone knows it.
