"Barbie could get an unwelcome present for her 50th birthday: outlawed in West Virginia.

A state lawmaker proposed a bill Tuesday to ban sales of the iconic Mattel doll and others like her.

The Barbie Ban Bill, proposed by Democratic Delegate Jeff Eldridge (D) Lincoln County, says such toys influence girls to place too much importance on physical beauty, at the expense of their intellectual and emotional development"
Out of all the **** to complain about.

I think this picture sums it up.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

Mattel should introduce a pregnant teenage cousin for Barbie in WV.

Actually, it should be even more popular in NYC, DET, CHI, or PHI based on the pervasiveness of unmarried pregnant teenagers.

I'm not on the crucify barbie bandwagon, but when I worked for the Body Shop Corporation several years ago, I went to one of their "responsible marketing" seminars and barbie was used pretty convincingly as an example of how irresponsible marketing affects kids. The dimensions of barbie are impossible yet little girls think that barbie is what they are supposed to look like. Moving from that to, later in their childhood, looking at fashion magazines where the models are airbrushed and impossibly thin, it begins to change a girl's perspective from healthy to an impossible fantasy.

Of course you could say the same about He-Man or GI Joe with little boys except the play and stimulation of the imagination is much, much different. Those toys are play combat while Barbie is all about the looks. Her clothes, her shoes, her car, her house, her hair. All about the looks and I think that changes little girls' perceptions over time.
