The Prime Minister's first official meeting with the new President fell short of the lavish welcomes laid on in recent years.

But there was no family get-together, nor did the President offer Mr Brown and his wife Sarah a star-studded White House dinner.

And instead of the traditional joint press conference, the Prime Minister was instead given an impromptu media briefing in the Oval Office.

British officials tried to counter the rumours by pointing out that Mr Brown was the first European leader to be invited to Washington.

Over Mr Brown's shoulder was another reminder of the change in Britain's influence in the Oval Office.

A bronze bust of Abraham Lincoln, the 19th century president Mr Obama considers his political hero, now sits where a bust of Winston Churchill previously held pride of place.
Nice to piss in the face of one of our closest allies... yet again. Twice in a month; pretty good.

Must be saving his political capital (that he is spending quickly) for the Russians, Iranians, and Palestinian terroristas.

LOL... The Lincoln bust? Obama has about as much in common with Lincoln as Michelle has with being proud of America.

Re: 'Seize the moment': Brown makes speech of his life to U.S. Congress after muted r

The only this missing from the whole fiasco was Michelle showing up in a do rag, scratching herself and axin if the cracker with the funny accent was stayin' for dinner. :doh

Int his economic time, do you think it wise to put on a lavish extravaganza? Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

Obama was offered a posh dinner with our Prime Minister last week and he politely declined. He said it would not look good in the eyes of people who are suffering economically. My best guess is that Obama is being consistant.

Michelle Malkin Obama celebrates spending binge with cocktails and wagyu steak

Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind And Fire to Rock the White House : Rolling Stone : Rock and Roll Daily

We Republicans have known all along, Obama says one thing and does another.

You liberals keep believing though...lmao...

Re: 'Seize the moment': Brown makes speech of his life to U.S. Congress after muted r

I think this is a result of British politics, not American ones. Blair was demonized for his fawning, toadyesque adoration of Bush, it's politically expedient for Brown to give himself a little more distance from the current American president. Even if the current American president is vastly more popular with the British.

Malkin has already been debunked, and please, tell me how much Stevie Wonder and EW&F were paid for their WH gig.

You missed the whole enchilada.

Brown wanted a reception like Blair got.
He didn't want distance.
Brown was disappointed.

Obama dissed Brown. Treated him like a lobbyist.

Well, it's circulating on The Hill that as a door prize Brown got to look at where Monika blew Clinton.

You think he's been extravagant, while Zimmer thinks he didn't do enough. Like I said in my first post, damned if he does, damed if he doesn't.

I read the whole article, and nowhere did it remotely quote anything from Brown in reference to your "statements." So how did you come to your conclusions?

Brown wanted a reception like Blair got. (quote please)
He didn't want distance. (quote please)
Brown was disappointed. (quote please)

Obama dissed Brown. Treated him like a lobbyist. (what did Obama do to make him feel this way?)

Bush was hated. And i mean hated by the British in general. The after effect brushed onto Blair.
Obama is liked ... alot and it seems to me Brown is trying to rub off on the 'obama effect'
Brown's ratings here is disgustingly low. Conservatives are points ahead in polls.

Debunked? ROTFLMAO...he threw the party, with the $100 steaks.

The DOW is down 3000 points and the idiot Obama is throwing lavish parties.

You might grab some of that Canadian Bacon, it'll go good with the egg on your face. :doh

Of course you know how much it all costed cuz you saw the bill.

In any event, if you're taking this postion, then you must be perfectly ok with Brown not getting the lavish treatment, correct?

Op's Article said:

There used to be a bust of Winston Churchill in the White-freaking-House?
Are you kidding me?

I never said anything of the sort.

Wagyu steak was served, Malkin admitted she was unfamiliar with that cut of beef, she looked up the cost.

That's a tough one to comprehend. :doh

Wrong again, what a surprise.

You said:

Obama was offered a posh dinner with our Prime Minister last week and he politely declined. He said it would not look good in the eyes of people who are suffering economically.

I showed by way of link, that Obama has been holding lavish parties, which makes Obama a liar, by making statements such as the one in bold above.

My best guess is that Obama is being consistant.

Yep, you guessed right, he's consistently lying.

Re: 'Seize the moment': Brown makes speech of his life to U.S. Congress after muted r

-- Blair was demonized for his fawning, toadyesque adoration of Bush, it's politically expedient for Brown to give himself a little more distance from the current American president --

BBC news tonight talked of the disappointment with Brown when he visited the states during Bush's last year - disappointment that he "wasn't another Blair."

You're very right that Blair lost credibility here for fawning over both Bush and Clinton. I personally had hopes (though I dislike the man) that Brown would keep his distance and be more realistic about the "special relationship." Instead he was invited to address the Congress and under influence of the occasion he went and blurted it all out again.

It's time the British PM (whoever he/she may be) recognises that the UK is not special neither does it deserve or want a special place in the eyes of the US. Britain needs to find her own way and path in the world and it shouldn't be at the US's beck and call and we shouldn't pander to whatever US President is in place and whatever war he or she wants us to support.

Brown may have won some "Brownie points" (a colloquial term here) with Congress but he still faces hard questions when he gets back and he's still on his way out. I only hope David Cameron or whoever replaces Gordon Brown has an independent vision of Britain's future. We deserve a leader who know better than thinking we are the US's favourite pet rat, fit only to pick the scraps from the table.

Obama humbled Europeans? You guys are making it sound like it's a bad thing or something. Did I miss a memo where it's no longer cool to give a middle finger to Europeans?

Britainia is not Europe.
Old Europe is not like New Europe.

Many in Old Europe deserve our middle finger.
The Brits and New Europe are largely exempted.
