Deputy Accused of Using Excessive Force on Teen Girl

What's really screwed up is if that girl had defended herself in any way whatsoever, she would have had charges and further vilifications thrown at her. Anyone who defends themselves against a police officer gets that.

Well that's how the bad cops preemptively protect themselves when they commit police brutality. The person fights back, it's resisting and assault on an officer, they get charged. Many times the officer is considered more credible and therefore the victim is now a violent suspect who has to prove that not only were they the victim of police brutality, but that they are innocent of assaulting the officer. If the victim manages to sue the agency (on the advice of council) offers to drop charges in order to try and make it go away. Often times the agencies liability insurance carrier will demand that they be allowed to make a monetary offer because they know that the potential judgment will reach seven figures.

Dash cams and CCTV in stations are a police administrators and citizens best friend. Those videos are powerful evidence in identifying the real criminal.

Cops have too much power and far too much leeway when it comes to taking people down. There is no such thing as self-defense when you are protecting yourself from being beaten by a cop, and this, IMO, needs to change.

What was this guy being arrested for and why didn't he obey their commands to submit to arrest?

Really need a bit more info. That doesn't look like brutality, that looks like a guy who won't submit to arrest.

That individual was afraid for his life and was being beaten down. The man was not a threat and he was not attacking. The police have no excuse for their continued baton assault.

I see it as excessive force but only because of the baton usage.

I understand he was afraid, but that doesn't help this case any. What was he being arrested for? If I have a guy there who has just robbed a bank or committed an assault, and he's not submitting to arrest, he's going to be compelled by force if necessary. It's on him to determine at what point my use of force stops and he is effectively subdued. Citizens are required to submit to lawful commands from police officers. If an officer is within his legal authority to arrest you and you fail to comply, he is authorized use of force to compel you to submit. The situation will dictate how far up on the force continuum the officer goes.

I don't have enough information to determine if the baton usage was or wasn't warranted.

I still have no problem with the tazer. Did he die from the taze, the knee to the throat, a pre-existing heart condition, yada yada yada

you are jumping the gun on this without more info

No, he's not.

1 hit with a tazer may have been warranted. A 2nd tazer shot was overkill. The knee to the man's neck didn't help matters.

I see it as the RCMP jumped the gun and made the situation much worse. All they needed was an interpretor. A bystander informed the RCMP responders that the man spoke no english.

Clearly, the 2nd tazer shot was more than the man could take. If it turns out he was on a pace maker, the RCMP is in deep shiznit.

cops using their knee on a perps neck is SOP when dealing with a combative perp, or when they are convulsing from electrocution :)

I have a bigger problem with getting a gun to the temple when i get pulled over for nothing more than having a black man in my car on I-95 in Florida
gun to the head while patted down, dogs brought out, car torn up....

thats excessive

It's a poor SOP that causes people to die.

I had a cop point a gun at my head before too... But a procedure of sticking the full weight through your knee onto a mans neck is worse.

I'm still living after my ordeal after all. Whats almost funny is a black dude actually ended up leaving arrested from my whole ordeal. At least I had a cutie female cop search for weapons on me.
Then they called me Mexican and said I look like I belong to a Mexican gang... And I'm totally white and was hanging out with 2 black friends... whats up with that?

We got pulled over because my friends car was reported stolen. It was his car but when he got it back he forgot to report it found. So I had to put my knees in glass or be shot according to the cop that night. As I was descending knees first into the glass ridden concrete I turned my head and looked at the cop and he was pointing his gun RIGHT at my head perfect aim.

I would've called the internal affairs division and filed a formal complaint.

Geez. That cop used way too much force on the 15-year-old girl. I hope they fire him.
People like that have no business being in law enforcement.
Purrs,
Pookie

Not trying to defend rhinefire here, but just curious...

If the one assaulted had been a man (or boy, I suppose), does that make the assailant any less of a coward?

Women in prison, women in gangs, women killing their children, their parents, their spouses and lovers, you think the role of women in this society has changed somewhat? **** that bitch. If she wants to insult authrority then authority has an obligation to respond. Wanna get tough honey? Then let's get tough. Understand something you namby pambys if you want to smart mouth a cop then you might want to consider doing it when he or she can't hear you and the same applies to smarting off to anyone if you are not prepared to take the backlash. This little bitch is thefirst to call the cops when her front door is being kicked in so F*** her! She asked for it and it came like a hell bound train. Anyone else care to try?

There is no need to try anything here. Your post speaks for itself and for your degenerate moral standards. The only thing here is pity for the women unfortunate enough to be a part of your life.

:wassat1: Why'd you quote me? I wasn't even talking to you. Hell, what did I say that even suggested that I disagreed with you?

The deputy's explanation is that he was assaulted by her kicking her shoes off and he was protecting himself from further assault. As this ferocious 15 year old girl who didn't once even manage to protect herself was punched in the face while she lay on the ground subdued and then he picked her up by her ****ing hair!

I would hope he goes to prison, but he most likely will not.

Prison? No, he will get a week or two paid suspension (vacation) and he will be back to work after an internal "investigation" turns up nothing. Sorry I have seen this movie far too many times before.

I believe cops, at times, overstep their bounds, and in this case, he most certainly did - you don't do that to a young girl, not with a 15 year old girl, no way......

Let's hope it doesn't end with suspension, but with at least jail time. The feds are also considering a civil rights case against this scum bag so let's hope for that as well. And then there are the possible civil remedies that are available to the girl and her family.

I hope they don't drop the juvenile case against her for the auto theft. She still needs to answer for her crimes.

What the hell is wrong with you? You have it all twisted. This isn't about defenseless women as much as it is about an obvious abuse of authority. Further, words are just that. Who cares if she called him every name in the book? If he can't stand being cussed he needs to give up his badge. Words don't harm you, they are just words. Abusive language does not give a cop or anyone else license to inflict injury on others. Oh sure, it happens, but it's not warranted and should always be addressed as a criminal assault.

Officers have authority to use force in order to protect themselves, others, property, or to overcome resistance during an arrest. The threat must be valid and the use of force proportional to the threat posed. This girl posed no real threat to this officer. She had already been arrested, was in custody, and had presumable been checked for weapons (as she was already booked into the facility). She flipped her tennis shoe out the door and it hit his leg. All he had to do was shut the door, she was not in the process of actually trying to harm him or escape. Shut the door, problem solved.

I spent 14 years as a cop, and if I had adopted your attitude I would not have made it that long and ended up sued into poverty, in jail, or dead. You need to do some soul searching or something. Sheesh.

I've had plenty of "runins" with police... and I've learned, you don't do stupid **** like that, else you're sometimes gonna end up with a knee on your neck..or a set of cuffs so tight you don't feel your hands after 5 minutes.

Some people believe that animocity in humans is gone when they put on a badge... it's just as much there.. if not more there, considering the bull**** they put up with from ****asses like I used to be back in the day.

Excessive? Yep.

The way things ought to be is that a policeman should act with total respect under the assumption that you are innocent until proven guilty. However, police run into lots of punks with foul mouths and **** up attitudes, so they become accustomed to the worst in society, who speak abusively to officers and provoke officers unnecesarily.
