Deputy Accused of Using Excessive Force on Teen Girl

I won't jump to rush conclusions based on the limited evidence we see on a video surveillance camera. If you read the report, it seems the teen was evaluated by medical staff after the incident and I've seen no indication she suffered any injuries.

Overboard? Perhaps.

Assault? I'm not sure.

Career ending? Who knows. I'll leave that to the courts and his superiors.

One of my pet peeves is these type of threads in which we're all supposed to rush in and be judge, jury, and execution based on little more than poor quality YouTube type videos.

Based on the video alone it obvious what is wrong here. Period. No cop should have the ability to do that just because they are angered. These people need to be removed from positions that they are prone to abuse.

Let me tell you something, you need to drop the domestic violence accusations towards me upstairs. You wanna talk your stupid smack in the Basement do it, but this isn't appropriate. Further, your whole bull**** line of accusing me of beating my wife and kids is complete lie that you proliferated off of me saying I'd pimp slap you or someone else as a joke in the Basement. You wanna spread this fertilizer of yours kid, do it in downstairs.

First of all, I made no accusation towards you in post #21:

http://www.debatepolitics.com/breaking-news/44629-deputy-accused-using-excessive-force-teen-girl-3.html#post1057944335

I linked it for you, so you could reread it, and perhaps actually comprehend the written word.

You also might actually click on, and read the link I posted. The facts are alarming and pertain to the topic at hand. I know it's difficult for you to understand, but this thread isn't about you, it's about police violence/misconduct in general. Your paranoia is duly noted though.

Second of all, your comment about "bitch slapping a two dollar hooker" clearly did not originate in the basement:

http://www.debatepolitics.com/us-elections/35092-democratic-convention-opens-bang-18.html#post1057708038

My response was a simple question.

Your the only one who referenced the basement in this thread.

I would like to ask you politely at this time to quit telling lies and leveling false accusations at/about me.

Throw him in general population for a year .. that's punishment enough!

A cop wouldn't last one day in general population... let alone an entire year.

The 2nd cop was a trainee during the incident, I doubt he even had any pension to begin with.

I'm not sure what the girls crime was, maybe she had killed other officers or something in her act of auto theft. It could have been something personal to the cop.

I'm not suggesting that this would justify his actions, but I would understand if that was the case. It's obvious that this guy lost his cool and took it out on the girl. I would be interested in why.

Perhaps so, but that doesn't justify his actions.

I dislike the idea of his abusive ass being on paid leave. He needs to be on unpaid leave -- pending the termination of his employment and arrest of assaulting a minor.

If that girl was your child, perhaps you would be more willing to see it for what it is.... a grown man beating down a 15 year-old girl. It's brutality plain and simple.

That Deputy has been charged with 4th Degree Assault.

Deputy Paul Schene is charged with fourth-degree assault after prosecutors said the tape showed him beating a teen girl at a suburban Seattle jail last November when she was arrested for stealing a car, the Associated Press reported.

"We believe this case is beyond just police misconduct, it's criminal misconduct," King County Prosecutor Daniel Satterberg told the AP. "This is clearly excessive force."

The footage shows the girl kicking her shoes toward the deputy at SeaTac City Hall and then being apparently struck by Schene and pushed to the ground. The deputy appears to pull the girl's hair and slams her to the jail cell floor.

4th degree assault is a misdemeanor. He will probably get off with a fine and his buddies will probably take up a collection to pay that for him.

There are far too many police in most suburbs. You have suburbs with practically zero crime rates that are still swarming with police. These suburbs just use the police as revenue generators.

The only thing that makes this unusual is that it was filmed. This type of thing and worse happens all the time. The victim doesn't usually have proof and their accusations are dimissed.

If it really offended you.. you could always call this man up and tell him if this man isn't treated to the same standard of law as average Americans... You will be sure to vote for stricter restrictions on cops next time around.

Goddamn.

I can't feel too sorry for her though, she'll be raking it in soon enough no doubt.

Really?

It's one thing to surround and beat down an innocent 200 pound minorityMinority or majority, what does that have to do with anything ? male. It's quite another to beat up a 15 year old whiteAgain, how does the color of skin become any kink of determinant ? girl and get caught by your own cameras.

The self-defense bit won't work and the public will be outraged by this like never before, that's my prediction.
In defense of this police officer..well there is no defense; apparently he is at the wrong job for his personality, he should be doing something else, like sweeping floors....
Who hired him ?
And the "puppy dog assistant, what was he doing ?
IMO, the entire system stinks..
The trouble with this situation is that we do not know the whole story...we know just a little.....
Major improvements can be made.....
These policemen must face and handle the dregs of society 24/7..They do need to be cut a break.

The fact that this was filmed is not unusual at all. These days there are cameras all over the jail to protect officers and inmates alike. All is being filmed and used for either evidence or training purposes. Streamlined video footage is released to the media and then you have fodder for youtube. Whatever the case, there is always going to be someone who will take one minute of video and say, told ya so - all cops are bad! I find that usually these are people who had have "negative" run-in's with the law in the past.

On the flip side to this coin, there is little I find more detestable than a bad cop and if he/she abuses that power given to him/her to uphold the law, he/she SHOULD be punished to the full extent of the law and then some!

Absolutely 100% true.

He only got a misdemeanor? He violently assaulted a little girl. He is the lowest kind of scum. The system is broke and until it's fixed I'm going to view all officers of the court in the same light unless they specifically demonstrate otherwise (Lerxst). Either they're corrupt or they're apathetic to it. I'm ****ing fed up with this ****.

That's just stupid.

I could care less. When I was in the Marines we were held to a high standard of conduct and when we deviated from that standard we were punished severely. Visual evidence of a Marine doing something like that to an Iraqi girl would have resulted in loss of rank, loss of pay, hard time in the brig, and most likely a dishonorable discharge. If abuses come to light in the military there aren't any slaps on the wrist or paid vacations.

I'm sick and tired of the constant thuggery and cronyism. All my major experiences with the police have been absolutely awful and almost every time something like this happens it seems justice is never served. From hence forth I will regard officers of the court with suspicion and doubt.

THis video is absolutely disgusting.

I'm usually one to reserve opinion until I get both sides, but this video is enough for me. It's obvious the officer was irritated and completely lost his cool. He not only punches her twice while she's cuffed on the ground, but pulls her hair to drag her down, lift her up, and direct her out of the cell. How unprofessional is that alone? Jeepers.

Officers who cannot control their tempers have no right to be in the police force. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

You're absolutely right, the military doesn't tolerate this type of behavior and won't hesitate to boot someone, regardless of rank or time in service.

It's funny how the ones who completely deny these types of actions, or or try to proclaim their innocence, are the ones who more often than not, are guilty.

Watching Bobby Cutts on TV, denying his involvement in the diappearance of his girlfriend was sickening.

Drew Peterson is another dirtbag who thinks he's fooled everyone. I'll be glad when it all catches up to him, and they convict the bozo. We'll see if he's smiling then.

This video footage is indeed unbelievable and way harsh but this jerk's actions do not in any way reflect the actions of all cops. Generally speaking, most cops are law-abiding family men/women who do a hard job that not everyone appreciates. This guy is a probably just a jailer on a power trip. Bad combination. Also, police LOVE video cameras! It makes doing their job that much easier and virtually alleviates "my word over yours".

(most) Cops Rule !!!! God bless them all!!!

Power always tends to abuse to paraphrase Lord Acton, particularly the unaccountable type. As cops have more of this than most ordinary people they are more likely to abuse it. They need to be kept on a tight rein.

Did he loose his job? I hope so.

According to the King County District Attorney's Office, he couldn't be charged with anything more because the girl wasn't injured.

He got the maximum allowed under Washington law.

He's likely to lose his job and King County is likely to be very broke very soon.
