What a croc.
Iran or rather the nutcase calling himself the leader is talking to the wrong people.
Ahmadinejad should realise that it is the writers who provide the dialogue for these films that so upset him.
With regard to the film '300' it WAS the Persians who marched and sailed to the Greek peninsula and attacked.
The fact that they got an initially bloody nose and that this fact is somewhat accurately displayed in this film, is likely what upsets this kook.

Gotta love dictators. If they don't like history, they simply revise it to their liking. The OP is right and the Persians WERE expansionist on several occasions in their history. At one time, post of central Asia belonged to the Persian Empire. As for Greece, of course Persia were the invaders and got beaten. Heck, it is even part of our culture today in that it gave us the Marathon.

My favorite quote from the article:

"We will believe (US President Barack) Obama's policy of change when we see change in Hollywood too, and if Hollywood wants to correct its behaviour towards Iranian people and Islamic culture then they have to officially apologise," Shamaghdari added.

I find it amusing that they think Obama has ANYTHING to do with what is filmed in Hollywood.

I find it even more amusing that they want an apology from Hollywood and whomever else for ONE scene that depicts someone tearing the Iranian flag, yet it is perfectly acceptable to them for their people to burn the American flag multiple times.

Obama should tell ImOnAJihad that he'd have to move his trigger finger to make that apology.

Get in line, Iran. Hollywood treats you better than it has George W Bush, Richard Nixon and pretty much every republican in America.

I didn't get the idea that they were upset about being portrayed as the aggressors. I got the idea that they were upset about being portrayed as bloodthirsty. I offer this quote from the OP article:
"In 2007, the war epic '300', a smash hit in the United States for its gory portrayal of the Greco-Persian wars, drew the wrath of Iranians for showing their ancestors as bloodthirsty."
Not that I think Hollywood should apologize for portraying them as bloodthirsty, either. But, I do understand their sentiment. Would you be upset if Americans were always portrayed in Hollywood movies as bloodthirsty conquerors? I would, but unlike the Iranians, I wouldn't think I was owed an apology.

The more interesting aspect of the whole thing is how the Iranians seem to be trying to use the matter to their diplomatic advantage. In the international arena, does it contribute to their political capital to be able to play up the purportedly unfair portrayals? Does it distract American's, and perhaps the World's attention away from what is truly important? And if so, should Hollywood care?

In my opinion, the apology part of the thing is a strategy that is a red herring set up by the Iranians to distract and to gain some small amount of political capital. They don't really want an apology. On the world stage, I don't believe apologies like this are asked for for their obvious reasons, unless it could lead to the prevention of injustice in the future. Such as, when the Jews ask for an apology from Germany, etc. I don't see that sort of issue at play here, so I feel that it is best to look for the ulterior motive.

Iran you ain't going to get a damn thing from Hollywood. As long as it's for entertainment purposes, then it's fairly valid. I saw 300 at least 300 times and not once did I exclaim... "This is badd... I hope the Iranians are okay with it". Persian equals not Iranian, ffs; they should convert to Paganism en masse.

But this does raise a subtle point about Hollywood and it's reflection of America culture:
Our movies are reproduced and shown all over the world, one of our greatest exports without a doubt. A common misconception (as my professor has observed with Jordanians) is that they believe we are the Bruce Willis' that we are the Clint Eastwoods, and that we are the Steve Mcqueen, and that we run around have sex with everything that moves (highly true), shoot at anything that moves (almost true), and that we are lawless (we can argue this point :) ). A problem with this? Well for starters they also see the females in these movies and how they portray, needless to say, a risque behavior. American Women in Jordan sometimes are also seen like the Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, the Angelina Jolies in Tomb Raider, or practically whatever movie.

I have not been too pleased with a mainstream movies from the Americas (with few exceptions, including 300 and Dark Knight)

I think Hollywood, a fraternity largely wrapped up in symbolism over substance... should apologize profusely, and use this as an opportunity for Obama to proclaim his Foreign Policy aces have begun mending ties with the gracious and generous leadership of the Iranian people.

WOO HOOOO

They're wanting the apologies from Hollywood Not Obamaer.

I'm not worried. Iran will get it's apology. Annette Benning is heading up a Hollywood Delegation to smooth things out with Iran.

Don't forget, Annette once played the girlfriend of the President in a movie.

Good thing we have a Secretary of State, and Joe Biden (with all his foreign policy experience) to handle foreign affairs. :doh

Not directly, perhaps.

But I'd bet dollars to donuts that 'Hollywood' changes its tune about the U.S. role in the world during the Obama years... big time. I'd bet the slew of anti-war, anti-CIA, anti-Intelligence, and anti-military type films and TV programs we've seen will be phased out for a different kind of 'upbeat' view of America. Hope for the future. Peace. Justice. A Brave New Green World.

It will be a love-fest. Just watch.

Iran has an apology of its own to make. The Iranian leaders should get down on their knees and apolgoize to the Bahai's they have imprisoned, and want to execute, for nothing more than practicing their faith.

I think that already happened.

Iran's tard government needs to realize that in the free world ... the state doesn't control the media.

If Aminajackoff doesn't like it ... too damn bad.

**** him and the camel he rode in on.

Yeah because Nixon and Bush were such outstanding presidents.... - I'll await for you to come up with how Nixon wasn't really a crook and ignore how not even Republicans want to remember the last 8 years.
