Jobless Angry at Possibility of No Benefits

As much as I hate the Bush and Obama stimulus packages, I have to say that those Republican governors are acting quite dumb, and are helping to recruit new voters for the Democratic party by turning down stimulus money that could be used for unemployment benefits. After all, unemployment knows no party, and a lot of those who are unemployed right now are going to turn out to be former Republicans. I think those governors should follow the example of Bobby Jindal who, while being against the stimulus, refuses to screw the unemployed in Louisiana in order to make a political point. Unemployment is a real issue, with real people, and should not be a political football.

Rick Perry and Mark Sanford are definitly not scoring any points with me.

Even so, didn't they say they were only going to reject some of it?

Rick Perry cannot leave the Governor's mansion fast enough for me. Looking forward to Governor Hutchinson.

Taking the bailout money is just ensuring state dependance on the Federal Government.

What happens when that unemployment money runs out? And it will, will the feds give more? Will the states be forced to raise that money themselves?
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

While I've always rather liked Kay Bailey Hutchison on a personal level, I don't really know much about her policies.

What I do know is that she's a lightweight during TV interviews. I was embarrassed to watch her performance on Hardball a few months ago. Painful. Nice lady. But not very quick on her feet. One of the things the GOP needs these days are representatives who can aggressively and soundly make their case in the public arena.

We are not talking about presidential candidates here. We are talking about governors. Texas needs a governor who is going to do right by Texas. Perry has not done that. I am confident that Hutchinson will.

I thought Bush or Obama had extended the amount of time one could receive unemployment benefits.

I realize that Hutchison (no 'n', btw) has been elected to her Senate seat by overwhelming margins. Gubernatorial politics in Texas are of another nature altogether. I think she'll get eaten alive.

Hope I'm wrong. But I wouldn't bet money on her survival.

I love when I argue against things like unemployment that people tell me its a form of insurance and it necessary.

Low and behold the "insurance company" doesn't have the funds to meet its obligations.

I wonder what would happen if you save the money yourself, but alas "social insurance" is way more reliable than you are.
I was discovering that life just simply isn't fair and bask in the unsung glory of knowing that each obstacle overcome along the way only adds to the satisfaction in the end. Nothing great, after all, was ever accomplished by anyone sulking in his or her misery.

I'd bet the farm. She will primary out Rick Perry, who was elected with only 37% of the vote in the last election. I voted for Kinky Friedman in that one.
