Burris acknowledges efforts to raise money for Blagojevich - Los Angeles Times

Holy ****, this just gets worse and worse:

Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.) has acknowledged that he sought to raise campaign funds for then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich at the request of the governor's brother at the same time he was making a pitch to be appointed to the Senate seat previously held by President Obama.

Burris' latest comments in Peoria, Ill., Monday night were the first time he has publicly said he was actively trying to raise money for Blagojevich. Previously Burris has left the impression that he always balked at the issue of raising money for the governor because of his interest in the Senate appointment.

In comments to reporters after appearing at a Democratic dinner, the senator several times contradicted his latest under-oath affidavit that he quietly filed with the Illinois House impeachment panel earlier this month. That affidavit was itself an attempt to clean up his live, sworn testimony to the panel Jan. 8, when he omitted his contacts with several Blagojevich insiders.

Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan on Monday night joined a growing chorus of Democratic officials who want a deeper investigation of Burris' comments. But she did not go as far as some, including Republicans, who have said specifically that they want Burris investigated for possible perjury.

Outstanding. Toss this guy out of the Senate, charge him with perjury and let IL have an election.

Oh NO, not another person in the Senate telling lies?:rofl
How can this be?:rofl

Our election and campaigning process has become so tainted and corrupted that maybe to entire process should be scrapped.
That politicians from Nixon to Obama can buy elections is not right.
That others can lie about things and not be punished ( a good public spanking) is an idea..
That campaign "promises" mean nothing..... from all of them.., is not right....

Welcome to the United States of Corporate America Inc.

I wish I could say this surprises me. Let the people pick their senator.

As I have repeatedly said.
All Politicians lie, they do this so as to be both electable and elected.
Once they have been elected their first course of action is to look after their own welfare.
I can only recall one Politician who once elected, refused to look after his own welfare.
I am unable to recall that he has achieved anything.
So in order to achieve anything in either House or Senate it is essential that one feathers ones own nest.
Is this what the Founding Fathers wanted?

Who, pray tell, might this be?

The special election costs too much, it's not going to happen. Get him for perjury? Because he's a senator that lied??

Because he is a senator that lied under oath.

I'll guess Paul Simon. Anyone who wears a bow tie just doesn't care about themselves.

Throw Burris out. I can't believe they tried to get away with this.

I think the timing of this is fishy too.
They waited until after the Porkzilla vote.

If he had been exposed a few days before, this would have changed the press cycle some, it would have lost the Dems a vote, and it could have given the party and public more time to voice their opposition, hoping one of the Three Numbskulls wouldn't allow them to get to 60.

The timing is a bit like showing the interview of Juanita #5 after the impeachment vote.
They had to know Burris lied earlier.

Tin hat off. :)

This should bring Burris his walking papers pretty soon. If it goes longer than a month, deep stains will remain on the D Party.

I thought this guy was clean, I mean he's a Democrat isn't he?

Its deep already, but they're Democrats.
Think if a Republican did this?
Twice?
With the President's former seat?!

1) oh yeah, I forgot. If a repub breaks the law it's ok.
2) Hello kettle
3) see #2

Diaper Dave has nothing to do with Burris. There are other threads for that.

What concerns me is that Burris committed perjury. At this time, not only is the Republican Illinois AG considering charges against him, but the Democratic Senate is considering expulsion. Looks like some pretty bi-partisan action here. Burris does not belong in any position of trust. Why? Because he is a freaking liar, that's why.

No, Dana, you don't understand. You see, Slippery Slope doesn't care about things like integrity or honesty. He only cares about the little letter next to a Senator's name, THAT is of paramount importance. You must learn to appreciate the importance of letters. Letters are the basis for all civilization and I would encourage you to give them their due consideration.

I wanna vote for my new senator goddammit! Get this piece of **** out of there.

You an me both. Anybody who thinks that letting a Governor appoint anyone they want as a replacement instead of holding a special election needs to have their head examined. Yes it costs money but tough cookies, that's the price you pay for having your politician elected or appointed to higher office.

Minor correction, Lisa Madigan is a Democrat.
