Inside the Newsroom: Case for gun-permit listings trumps emotional opposition

Well then I guess you don't support that Sex Offenders need to register where they are at. Privacy and all right?
Apples and oranges.
Sex offenders have a committed a crime. CCW holders and people that have had an abortion have not.

You have a choice.

You can decide that people have the right to ecercise their rights in privacy, or they do not.

Which is it?

You have a choice.

So do those that get a concealed weapon permit. They don't HAVE to get one, it is a choice.

I love how you claim it isn't ok for people to decide what can be public or not, yet here you are doing the same thing.

Well you should answer that question since you believe sex offenders should have to register yet those with concealed weapons permits shouldn't have to.

Which is it? You can people decide that people have the right to exercise their rights in privacy or they do not.

OOOH I know, We can publish which parents send thier kids to church or private schools next.

You do get, one is a criminal the other is a law abiding citizen right?

Naw, I say we publish the list of parents that don't spank their children next.

I addressed this. Sex offenders are criminals. CCW holders and people that have had abortions are not. Apples and oranges.

Or parents who smoke.

Buy lottery tickets.

Or who is on welfare.

Who gets food stamps.

Did this list publish home addresses as well?

Here is an interesting take.

yes it was addresses as well.

“The most serious outcome of this outrageous publishing of gun owners’ names and addresses is the 'road map' this provides criminals who now know where to break in and steal weapons. Easily traceable stolen registered firearms that result in crime from this article could perhaps result in Matt Westerhold, the publisher, being indicted as an accomplice to any resultant felonies. Perhaps a bit more thought could have been used before this list was published. Westerhold has probably opened himself up to at least 2,700 individual lawsuits. I wonder what his next job will be.” (‘Ohio Newspaper Under Fire for Outing Gun Owners,’ July 5)

Do you or do you not have the right to exercise your rights in privacy?

In some cases you do and some you don't. Plain and simple. The way it stands in some states, concealed weapons permits are NOT private.

Don't like it, change it.

I wonder how many of these were undercover police officers who hold CCW's as well?

Well then I guess you don't support that Sex Offenders need to register where they are at. Privacy and all right?

It is amusing to see the selective outrage by conservatives.

I actually have a problem with the government doing that. I don't think it's their right. The only thing you can really say about it is that those people are "convicted" criminals (it doesn't take much to get on that list, public urination in Colorado gets you on that list...which is one of the reasons I hate it) and because they have been found guilty in a court of law, the government can forcibly infringe upon their rights where as someone obtaining a CCW has not been convicted of anything in a court of law and is merely exercising one of their innate and inalienable rights. Of which shouldn't land you on any type of list. But there are a lot of nosy people out there that can't mind their own beeswax.

The fact this paper even got this information is a crime.

Another shining example of liberal selective outrage --- whine and cry about rights they like, and ignore those that they don't.

Didn't lose the argument at all. If it is illegal for them to do it, you should be able to sue correct?

You are the one that FAILS since it isn't illegal to do.

Go troll elsewhere.
