Unredacted documents reveal prisoners tortured to death

It has now come to light that prisoners have died as a result of the euphemistically termed "harsh interrogations" conducted by personnel at Bagram Air Base.

No, we don't torture. We only give harsh interrogations. I have one question. What in the hell is the difference, given what has now been revealed? Call it what you want, but if a prisoner dies as a result of this, he was tortured to death.

There is no way to spin this. These are war crimes, folks.

    Article is here.

If the descriptions are accurate, then that is torture.

However, the report from which this comes also says repeatedly that these were not approved interrogation techniques.

.....nah uh. If it did happen it's probably permissible under some document of some sort so that makes it NOT torture.

    So, this is the document:

    http://www.aclu.org/images/torture/a...e293_38710.pdf

Criminal charges against 28 were recommended; doesn't say if they were pursued (because that's where the page leaves off).

Well no **** it's going to be "off the record". Do you actually think they would create evidence that shows that they condone this? What are you, an idiot?

...and because some troops raped some lady in Iraq, that means that the US committed war crimes!

    /faulty logic

The document indicates that the government conducted an investigation into the deaths of two detainees while in custody. The document further indicates that the investigation discovered that troops broke the law in their actions, and recommended criminal charges for 28 people.

IIRC, that's how these investigations are supposed to work.

No. I'm examining the evidence at face value. Is the document reliable or isn't it?

It's not about some troops raping people, it is about the sentencing they received compared to other rapists. They received lesser sentences.

Re: Unredacted documents reveal prisoners tortured to death

I would say that this is less of a commentary on torture (though it still is, IMO), and more of a commentary on what happens when soldiers are not properly supervised. They are trained to be mindless killing machines that hate the enemy, and if they are not supervised to ensure they are obeying protocol, they will behave like animals.

Regardless if someone authorized this or not, it was still torture in an official facility and should be investigated. Why were soldiers who were clearly unqualified to run a standard interrogation left alone with prisoners long enough to cause their deaths?
