    FALSE
    Only to the revisionists.

The 1953 Iranian coup d'état saw the overthrow of the democratically-elected government of the Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddeq from power by British and American intelligence operatives working together with Iranian agents and elements of the Iranian army. [1] Kermit Roosevelt, Jr. of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), organized the covert operation - codenamed Operation Ajax - [2] by aiding retired Iranian General Fazlollah Zahedi and Imperial Guard Colonel Nematollah Nassiri, and bribing Iranian officials, news media and businessmen with British and American funds.[3]

The coup has been called "a critical event in post-war world history." It reinstalled Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi as an absolute ruler [4], replacing an elected government with a pro-Western dictatorship, and is widely believed to have significantly contributed to the 1979 Iranian Revolution replacing the Shah with an anti-Western Islamic Republic.[5]

Madeleine Albright apologized for this. Get with the program.

"The US spends (read:wastes) millions of dollars a year on regime change in Iran."

    SOURCE?
    t r u t h o u t | US Allocates $75 Million to Inspire Regime Change in Iran

If you still want to deny truth and need more sources, let me know.

By the way, do you have any sources to show Iran is trying to overthrow the system we choose to have?

"The US has invaded both of Iran's neighbors, one with no justification."

    FALSE
Maybe to someone who fails to remember why we invaded.

By the way, how many nations has the Iranian military invaded?

"The US has called Iran a member of an axis of evil, obviously showing that anti-Iranianism is one of the main features of the US."

FALSE; the president labeled Iran as part of an axis of evil including North Korea and Syria. The PRESIDENTS statements were correct unless you want to provide something that disputes that Iran, Syria and North Korea have de-stabilizing policies that encourage terrorism.
Compared with the terrorism the US exports, such as Operation Ajax mentioned above, this is nothing that can stop talks from going forward. Also, Syria was not in the axis of evil, if you recall, and diplomatic efforts there have progressed despite the Israeli's taking Palestinian blood for election results.

By the way, North Korea didn't export terrorism. They did the smart thing and made WMD. So now we give them concessions.

Saddam was an idiot and actually thought that if he stopped the program, we might not invade.

He took the US at its word. What a dumbass.

"Since when are we talking about Israel?"

The notion that Israel is not a key issue in the Middle East Peace debate is nonsensical; since when are we NOT talking about Israel. Here's another clue for you, Iran's President has on numerous occasions spoken about Israel's destruction; more evidence of why Iran is part of the axis of evil.
How many taxes do Israelis pay to the US?

I realize many Americans think we have to treat Israel like our children, but I disagree. They have nukes, they can take care of themselves.

"The President of Iran said that talks could begin, so long as they were based on mutual respect."

FALSE; the President of Iran described mutual respect as America apologizing for past oppressions and completely pulling out troops in the Middle East. Does this include Iran apologizing for the despicable taking of American soil/Embassy and holding our people hostage for over 430 days?
    Hopefully, yes.

"It also said the President of Iran sent several letters to our former President who didn't even bother to answer them."

They weren't answered because they were incoherent lunatic rants; did you bother to even read them?
If he threatened to invade my nation I'd insult him as well.

"It's the US which has kept normalization from going forward, not the other way around. "

FALSE and ABSURD; it's Iran's purposeful efforts to develop nuclear weapons contrary to their agreements and UN resolutions against such actions. That combined with their lunatic rhetoric and assertions prevents any meaningful dialogue; the UN and European Union had taken over the negotiations and have gotten NOWHERE with these morons.
Iran has seen how the world works.

Iraq: No WMD program. Massive Invasion, hundreds of thousands dead and millions of refugees.

NK: Succesfull WMD program. Newfound respect and millions of tons of foreign aid.

Your arguments can only be made in a vacuum of reality and the facts.
    Ah, yes.

The world where the US does not invade countries around the world.

The world where Iran is at war with several nations surrounding the US.

The world where America wants peace.

What a joke. The last 6 years show what a hypocritical, self-indulging, gluttonous and downright stupid nation we can be at times.

There have been direct talks. In fact, the Bush administration alone conducted more than two dozen meetings with Iranian officials. For example, as late as 2008 Bush was sending administration officials. From 2006...

Additionally, the Bush administration offered up direct talks to Iran in 2007 if Iran suspended enriching uranium.

FACT: The Bush administration pursued and conducted direct talks with Iran.

    Blessed? FALSE.
False? So the Bush administration did not approve of the EU-3 pursuing talks with Iran? Please see that last link above and you'll read:
The diplomats from Britain, the United States, France, Russia, China and Germany said they would give Javier Solana, the EU foreign policy chief, approval to meet Ali Larijani, Iran's nuclear negotiator, probably next week.
    Source?
See sources above when US diplomats met with Iranian diplomats whether in Geneva, Vienna, or elsewhere.

    Source?
For what? Obama is seeking out partners to engage Iran, he has has the State Department drafting letters to Iran. See here.

Seriously, if you want to discuss this issue you kinda have an obligation to first be informed before spewing unsubstantiated assertions and challenging the comments posted by others.

    False
Given that you're clearly ignorant on this issue, your naked assertions are hardly persuasive.

As far back as Carter, the US has been sending letters to Iran. Carter was particularly embarrassed after his guys, Ramsey Clarke and William Miller, were refused entry to Iran when they attempted to deliver correspondence from Carter.

    False.
Quite the contrary...reaching out for partners to engage Iran, sending diplomats, writing letters...it's all been tried before and with disastrous results whether they be more hostages, American businessmen being gunned down (thank you G.H.W. Bush), or Iran's continued enrichment programs.

Why would Hillary want to hold hands and gaze into Bush's eyes?

    Aaaaaand, here we have it.

Yet another useful idiot totally minimizing the horror of the Holacaust and evil of Nazi Germany...and for what? To criticize Bush?

Why is it that liberals take the most evil events and dilute them so they can condemn anyone who disagrees with them?

Oh I don't know. Ahmadinejad could lose the next election to Khatami in June and then the whole game changes.

Relations between the United States and Iran improved marginally during Khatami's eight years in office, and he encouraged athletic and cultural exchanges. But it deteriorated after the Sept. 11 attacks when former President George W. Bush declared Iran belonged to an "axis of evil." Ahmadinejad widened that gap after he was elected in 2005.

We will normalize relations when you stop your despicable rhetoric about the destruction of the State of Israel and cease your attempts to develop nuclear weapons which will further de-stabilize the region and possible start a nuclear confrontation.

Here's a brief but more factual history of the coup that removed the communist leaning Mossadeq. It was more about Britain's loss of it's oil fields through the attempted nationalization of their oil assets than it was an American led coup.

History of Iran: A short account of 1953 Coup

Fortunately for the world, jingoistic pinheads who subscribe to this belicose crap are no longer in control. Why they thought this attitude was the best approach for America to establish itself as a world leader, I have no idea. When peace comes to the Mideast, when Israel establishes a truce with the Moslem world, when Mideast oil is cheap and accesible, it will be because America took the lead in diplomacy, found common ground between enemies, and treated all parties with respect.
