Me too because if this stimulus package has a positive effect, the Republicans won't be able to claim that they assisted in such positive effect, and the Democrats can hopefully win more seats in Congress.
Considering that the only way you get a refund is to pay taxes then please explain how someone who doesn't pay taxes gets a tax break? You must have gotten grannys 45 point hot pink text email...:doh
Pelosi"s funds for bird sanctuary, hybrid vehicles for gov't cars, smoking cessation activities, indian alcohol rehab program, 75 million tax cut for movie producers.... Shall I go on or can you go find the bill all by your big boy self? That's just the stuff off the top of my head.
Not to mention:
$44 million for repairs at the Agriculture Department headquarters in Washington.
$200 million to rehabilitate the National Mall.
$360 million for new child care centers at military bases.
$1.8 billion to repair National Park Service facilities.
$276 million to update technology at the State Department.
$500 million for the Transportation Security Administration to install bomb detectors at airports.
$600 million for General Services Administration to replace older vehicles with alternative fuel vehicles.
$2.5 billion to upgrade low-income housing.
$400 million for NASA scientists to conduct climate change research.
$426 million to construct facilities at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
$800 million to clean up Superfund sites.
$150 million for the Coast Guard to repair or remove bridges deemed a hazard to navigation.
$6.7 billion to renovate and improve energy efficiency at federal buildings.
$400 million to replace the Social Security Administration's 30-year-old National Computer Center.
Only 38% of the infrastructure money will be spent by the end of fiscal year 2010. This is not stimulus. We need stimulus NOW, not in 2011.
See that's the trouble with you Pete, you lie about the facts. The Democrats were never shut out of the legilative process, so they're not giving the Republicans a taste of their own medicine. The Republicans gave a lot of power to the Dems even on committees. Why do you lie, what purpose could it serve? These programs listed create work, temporarily; creating jobs is is a permanent thing and only private industry can do that, not govt. Your ideas are short sighted and typical of liberal thinking. And what stimulus would work here and now? And no, tax cuts do not work here and now, and it is highly unlikely that tax cuts would stimulate anything in the situation the US is in. So what exactly would stimulate here and now?
Face it, everything you listed above requires workers to make and do. That means either people's jobs are saved or they have to hire someone to do it. Aint that what we want? To safe guard jobs and expand on jobs?
As for the Republican's being shut out.. booohoooo, after 10+ years of marginalizing the other side and anyone who disagreed with them, it is about time they get some taste of their own medicine. Not to mention they have no plans other than tax cuts to contribute with.

Seriously? Republicans are whining about not being included in something they want no part of?
Me lie about what? Did the Democrats not complain about the same thing during the reign of the Republican majority since the mid 1990s? I seem to remember how Republican's made the Democrats hold hearings in basement or similar locales because they did not agree with the hearing....

The energy bill, developed during secret meetings by a task force headed by Vice President Dick Cheney, was written exclusively by Republicans, who shut out Democrats from conference committee talks that have historically been bipartisan.
The Medicare bill started out as a bipartisan effort, with Kennedy working with Republican colleagues. But House Republican leaders forced dramatic revisions to the bill and rewrote the package in closed-door sessions.
Last week Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives were given a closed-door briefing by Condoleezza Rice, President Bush's national security adviser, about the Iraq war, the extension of duty for U.S. troops and the June 30 handover of Iraqi sovereignty. Democrats in Congress were not invited and not allowed to participate.
why no link?
Congressman Pete Stark Reflects on Life Under a Republican DictatorshipWe are basically never invited to participate in the formulation of a bill. ... not only are Democrats not allowed to participate in those conferences, a lot of times we can't even find out where they're meeting.
When the House considered the annual appropriations for government spending for the 2004 fiscal year, not only were the Democrats excluded from the conference committees, but they were also excluded from participating in the debate on the House rules for the spending bills....the Republican faction has now resorted to excluding virtually all Democrats, including the Minority leader of the Senate, Tom Daschle, from even attending conference committee meetings.
Context of 'August 23, 2006: Republican Intelligence Report on Iran’s Nuclear Program Is Fundamentally False'The report is generated strictly by the Republicans on the committee; input from Democratic members was quite limited. The report is generated strictly by the Republicans on the committee; input from Democratic members was quite limited.
Moreover, since 1994, partisanship has strengthened its hold on Congress. Congressional leaders centralized fundraising so that the parties could use campaign money strategically to make certain that members remained loyal to their agenda. Republicans excluded Democrats from participating in conference committees and relied on stringent rules to prevent them and moderate Republicans from challenging the leadership.
American, anyone who knows how to operate a Google Machine can quickly discover countless examples of Republican refusal to include Democrats in the legislative process. Here are just a few examples, from a very quick search:
That may be. But they apparently were not even informed that the meeting was happening. That's not transparency in government.
This is moronic.
if they were a part of it they could mitigate the damage.
By allowing Golden parachutes and no accountability for how the money is spent? That's what they supported previously.
Here, I'll give you some more examples, with links:

If you don't like these examples, I'll provide more. Bottom line, Republicans decided to exclude Democrats from the legislative process for 12 years. Now they demand bipartisanship, but reject it immediately. What they want...all they want...is to be in charge, to continue the destruction of America's economy and reputation in the world.
Anything from any real sites?
Bottom line, Bush and Republicans did reach out several times.
No child left behind for one. Only to be shot down.
Obama promised change, he has shown none
IF you mean reach out by "take it or leave it" mentality then yes they did.

As long as obama doesn't resort to putting people like Armstrong Williams on the payroll in clandestine ways that is change I can live with.
Er is he on the White House payroll ala Armstrong Williams style?
so Golden Parachutes are not allowed under this "stimulus" package? Republicans wanted that in?
Either you just lied, or you are ignorant my long haired friend. :2razz:
