This really shouldn't be all that surprising. Hopefully the Army will start tightening the reins on who they allow in now.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Fresh recruits keep pouring into the U.S. military, as concerns about serving in Iraq and Afghanistan are eclipsed by the terrible civilian job market.

The Department of Defense said Tuesday that all branches of the armed forces, including the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps, met or exceeded their active duty recruiting goals for January, continuing a trend that began with a decline in the U.S. job market

More than the bad economy, having a president who respects military personnel and tries to keep them safe will cause a boost in recruitment. Bush didn't care if the troops died, they were volunteers...after all.

SOUNDS ACCURATE!

OH NOES!! They target the poor!!!!!!

I wonder if the army could do anything with a BS in Advertising and Marketing...

Other then, you know, regular army stuff.

Recruiting. You could be the guy coming up with those corny recruiting videos. You're Strong, we'll make you Army Strong!

They don't make their own ads, they hire agencies.

So maybe an agency with a military contract is hiring

I thought the "Army of One" was particularly stupid, seeing as the army is pretty big on team work...

They might I guess. I know a colonel in the Reserves who worked at the Pentagon two weeks a year. He told me that they worked on the "Army Strong" ads.

"Army of One" wasn't nearly as stupid as what they used to have. "We do more before noon than most people do all day." Yeah, we get up early. Good recruiting point there guys:doh

I really dont have much faith in Obama in regards to military treatment. With Hillary as his SoS I keep thinking Bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran.

Are you serious? Do they really have their own ad department?

God that's retarded...I mean our current army outsources everything- do they really not outsource one of the few things that is a pretty legitimate thing to contract?

Tighten the reins...? The required GPA was already at 3.2, for enlistment concideration, with no criminal record. I`ll bet you`re one of those who looks down their nose at active duty personel ,and vets..., not dog doctors bozo, veterans. Our military is heads above anything on the planet. I noticed you didn`t serve, couldn`t measure up ?

Public Affairs I believe it's called.

They probably do, I'm just taking this guy's word for it. You could be right though, they probably outsource a lot of it. Probably be smart to.

Economicly enslaved societies of the past used this same tactic. The government has just put a little different twist on it in this case. They got rid of all the private sector jobs first by outsourceing. The conspiracy theorist in me is figuring out Big Brothers script by back tracking. This all does feel scripted. Pardon my doubts in the feds.

Stop posting childishness.

What's your problem with expression of opinions? Not very American of you, now is it?

He's not a child but he posts crap like that. He isn't thinking. I expect more.

Personally I don't look up to those who serve in the military unless they're fighting for a proper war of national defence like WWII. They're no better than anyone else and I have an ancient Tory suspicion of standing armies.

As Robert Nisbet pointed out so well, and many others before and since, the values and effects on militarisation and war on society can be very perverse from a Conservative, Libertarian and Decentralist position. In Britain I want a far tighter rein kept on the military. "War is the Health of the state" as Randolph Bourne pointed out.

Without peacetime soldiers we'd invite attack.

Then you'd be able to look up to the bodies that are shipped home as well as the wounded.

Does the war on terror pass the test ? I think it does. I`m not pleased with how its been conducted but," mission accomplished". No terror attacks since we took issue with the scumbags and followed them home.... BTW, Australia has a highly respected military..., Look up to them. :2wave:

.
That is no reason to look up to them over a lot of other people.

A limited, peacetime military is needed perhaps but that does not remove the great dangers of militarism and war with its always accompanying centralisation, authoritarianism and bureaucracy which do so much to endanger Conservative values and society.

I certainly don't think the war on terror passes the test for Britain. It is foolish interventionism that is a menace to domestic liberty and external security. Britain should never have been involved.
