This just keeps getting more ridiculous:

Nadya Suleman, the mother of the octuplets born last month, gets $490 a month in food stamps, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday evening. Three of her first children also get federal supplemental security income because they are disabled, the Times reported.

Suleman's publicist, Michael Furtney, confirmed the information.

So let me get this straight - She was on food stamps and THREE of her SIX children were already so disabled that they get SSI payments, and she thought it would be a good idea to spend tens of thousands of dollars on fertility treatments for MORE kids?

During an interview with Ann Curry on the TODAY show, Suleman denied being on welfare. Suleman told NBC News correspondent Ann Curry in an interview that she was not receiving welfare. Furtney said Suleman didn't consider the food stamps and SSI to be welfare.

"In Nadya's view, the money that she gets from the food stamp program ... and the resources disabilities payments she gets for her three children are not welfare," he said. "They are part of programs designed to help people with need, and she does not see that as welfare."

Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot we live in a world where we can unilaterally define things to mean what we want them to mean.

During the interview with Curry, Suleman said, "I'm not receiving help from the government. I'm not trying to expect anything from anybody. just wanted to do it on my own.

NBC chief medical editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman has estimated the cost of delivering the infants and caring for them until they are healthy enough to leave the hospital at $1.5 million to $3 million.

That's just fantastic. So, in addition to the $1.5 - $3 million that the public will be paying for these kids to be born, we're also on the hook for food stamps and SSI for the original three. And given that half of the first six were disabled, what do you think the odds are that a bunch of the next eight are as well?

At this point, I truly am praying that she gets corporate sponsorships, because the rest of us should not be paying for this ****.

Does everyone recipient of food stamps get the services of a publicist too?

I agree with you NYU. Just when I think I couldn't be more disgusted with this attention whore, I find out I can. This pisses me off.

This chick has to have a mental disorder.

My position on this issue is very simple: If you can't afford kids, don't bloody have any. :doh

The State is not there to help you out financially as soon as you squeeze the puppies out. The State is there to assist in case you fall on hard times at some point in your life. It's certainly not there to help make your demented dreams of being a single mother of a 50 come true.

IT is right. The woman is completely mental.

How is it possible that the public is paying for these services? Fertility treatments should be a opt-in procedure similar to breast enlargement surgery and liposuction.

If you can't pay for it yourself then you shouldn't be having it done.

Apparently she paid for the fertility treatments herself. So what that means is that this woman who was unemployed, out on disability, unmarried, living with her parents, with six kids at home (three of whom were disabled), and on public assistance saved up tens of thousands of dollars and then instead of

1) Using it to get her own place for the kids,
2) Using it for school for her children,
3) Using it to get off of public assistance, or
4) Using it to get special treatment for her disabled kids

Instead used it to have 8 more kids.

awesome flick

I think she received the money for the IVF from a personal injury settlement.

That is why she is on disability. Go figure, you can be disabled and still pop out eight welfare babies. :doh

How does one pay for fertility treatments "on their own" if they are unemployed and their only source of income seems to be government assistance? Or does her husband work, and they keep seperate bank accounts for earned money, and stolen money?

Her welfare eligibility and rights to her children need to be evaluated then. She obviously is not fiscally or mentally responsible enough to care for 14 children.

If people choose to get money from the government, and thus the tax payers, then their spending of that money should be restricted and monitored.

It's ridiculous that people living in a $600k+ house and driving a $50k new car are able to pay for anything with a welfare check.

From what I read, she was injured at work and has been out on worker's comp for the past several years, during which time she had her first six kids. This past year, the state finally sued her, alleging that she was not truly disabled. The state won, forcing her to go back to work. A few months later, she got pregnant with these 8 kids.

And there's no husband.

And there's no husband.

I heard on the radio this morning that the dad wants to get married but she said no because she wants to raise the children as an independent single mother.

I'll try to find a link..hopefully it's not on TMZ.com.

Jesus Christ...people like this almost make me want to say we need some kind of ****ing test for the ability to have kids or a limit on amount of children based off pay scale or some ****ing thing.

(almost)

The father of all 14 kids is a sperm donor who she said was just a friend. the guy she was married to didn't father any of the kids.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be surprised if the sperm donor was thinking about marrying her now.

Who is the luckiest man walking on the face of the Earth? Her ex-husband who got out before she had 14 kids.

LOL! I just want to know why ppl keep saying she looks like Angelina Jolie:shock::shock:

I'm surprised that none of the usual suspects have come in yelling about how 'Nadya Suleman' is another foot soldier in Islam's Sharia expansion.

This is why I favor attaching strings to welfare and food stamp payments. Moochers of the state IE those who mooch off of us the tax payer should be on birth control. This woman could not afford to take care of the kids she has now, there is no way in hell that she should have been allowed to get in verto fertilization. The first thing that money grubbing quack doctor should ask any customer is can you afford to actually take care of a child on your own without the assistance of anyone(or without the assistance of anyone other than your husband)?

The "father" of her children donated sperm for her. I watched her in an interview last night on Dateline. I didn't get the sense that there was any romantic relationship between the two of them.

As to her interview, she makes me f--ing sick. She's an idiot, and I hope her doctor (the one who implanted 6 embryos) gets in trouble.
